January News ...
Start the New Year with
a FRESH Perspective!
Greetings!

Wow, we are really excited to start another new year of our lives together with you.  The old year has flown by and the new one has rushed in and this is usually about the time someone would say, "so what's your New Year resolution?".  However, we've been given a FRESH perspective on the idea of welcoming a new year, and we hope you will not only enjoy it, but join us.

The thought of a new year starting, often creates a sense of guilt as we think of opportunities lost and then follow it up with the anxiety of what the future holds.  One fresh way of looking at this is realizing that we just can't do everything that comes at us.  So start making choices about opportunities with a realistic expectation of what will fit on your plate and still allow you to rest and enjoy quiet time with your family or friends.  Then, stop calculating so much about what will happen next, know that "it is what it is" and "you can only be where you're at" ... then when opportunity knocks, you can prayerfully consider whether you should answer or not.  Not every opportunity lost is necessarily a loss for you.  This should start to make you feel more at ease just as soon as you begin to do it.

Next we look at why resolutions set you up for failure.  Why?  Because they usually include an "end result" that we think we want, with a "process" that we aren't the least bit interested in.  Let's face it, how many of us love the idea of "no pain no gain"?  Sure, the few people who came up with PX90 workout, but most of us would be more comfortable with carrying a few extra pounds and enjoying life.  So we suggest starting the idea of change with the concept of beginning to care and love yourself rightly.  You may have heard, "love your neighbor as yourself" ... well, if you don't love yourself in the right way, then you can't love others either.  So, begin by realizing that you were created to be loved and to love others.  Now you need to forgive yourself for the past, forgive others for things may have done (or not done) to you and make a plan for the future.  The plan is simple.  Look for the opportunities of change that include doing something you enjoy and when someone offers to do something nice for you, let them.

If you think this sounds difficult, then you need to keep reading, because we have designed a plan just for you.  At our January FRIDAY NIGHT KNIT CLUB, we are going to treat you to SPA NIGHT.

And, if you really want to do something nice for others ... you still have an opportunity to participate in the MITTEN TREE project.  We have once again included the flier, so keep reading.
Up-Coming Classes!
Before you get swept away by the details of the FNKC, we thought we would remind you about classes.  Currently the First Sock class is full for January and February and there are only two spots available in the Mittens on the Magic loop.  We will be adding more classes very soon ... so keep checking the WEBSITE often, and when you find a class you're interested in don't wait to call the shop and sign up.

*NOTE:  Please call or stop by the store to register for classes as we do not take registration via e-mail and our website is not wired to handle this task.
The "Friday Night Knit Club"
Wants You to Enjoy a
SPA NIGHT!

You heard right!  We are having a Spa Night just for you ... so bring your bathrobe and slippers (just kidding).  Seriously on Friday January 21st from 6-8pm we are hosting an evening created to help you Rest, Relax & Renew.  The evening will start with a stylist and consultant from Salon Bliss, who will treat you to a free paraffin hand waxing and discuss other services they offer to their clients.  We'll then continue the journey of caring for and loving ourselves as our very own Carrie (a customer and FNKC groupie), shares the magic of message therapy.  A message therapist herself, Carrie will talk about methods of knitting pain free, stretching your hands and forearms and then pamper you with a personal hand and forearm message.

So be sure to stay tuned to your email and look for the RSVP from us the week of the 17th with all the details.  You won't want to miss this opportunity, and we heard a secret, there may be some drawing giveaways by our gracious hosts for the evening.

We can't wait to see you there.
The Mitten Tree Project!

"MITTEN TREE"

a project for women in need

The knitters in this community continue to prove that serving and sharing are foundational to knitting.  In fact, if we had to guess, we would say that at least 80% of all knitted items are for someone other than the knitter.  That truly fills our heart with joy.  This is why we are excited to ask you to once again partner with us to share love and bring hope to women in this community who desperately need to know that someone cares.

Our 2010/2011 Mitten Tree is a project to provide hand knitted mittens, scarves and hats for women at a battered women's shelter and Polk County's residential living center.  The items we donate will be distributed by our friends and partners at Family Directions of Iowa.  We are calling this a chance to "pay it forward", yet we at Knitted Together want to pay you back for your generosity.  For your generous donations through January 31st 2011, we will give you a 10% discount coupon to use when shopping in our store.  Here's how it works:

  • Knit mittens, scarves and hats (your choice).  Please make them gender specific as possible as they will be given to women.
  • Bring them to Knitted Together anytime from December 1st through January 31st 2011.
  • When you turn your item/items in, you will receive a coupon that will entitle you to 10% off your one time yarn purchase at Knitted Together.  Coupon is valid January 4th through February 26th 2011.
  • Feel free to attach a card or note along with your contribution, please don't include your last name.

You may contribute to the project as many times as you like, however, we can only offer ONE coupon per person for this promotion.  Here are a few more simple rules we ask you abide by.  Hand knitted, not store bought.  NO used items.  No duplicating of coupons.

Once again, we thank you for partnering with us.  Whether you call it "paying it forward" or as we have been sharing about "think global, act local" ... we think it's a win, win for everyone.

Featured Yarns ...
New yarns continue to arrive all the time.  Here's a brief description of a just a few ... sorry, though, you'll have to come in the store to get a look.
  • Noro:  We have added Taiyo to our Noro collection.  This yarn is a brilliant mix of fiber content with 40% cotton, 30% silk, 15% wool and 15% nylon.  As usual it comes in all the genius colors of Noro (of course they're genius, the designer gives credit to nature for the color).  Plus we have two new lines from Noro soon to arrive.
  • Mountain Colors: We recently replenished the color selection in the following lines.
    • 4/8's
    • Merino Ribbon
    • Moguls
  • Knitting Fever, Athena:  YES! Back by popular demand ... ladder yarn.  Lots of people have been asking for it and we NOW have it in five great colors.
Images ... having trouble viewing?
We would like to make a few comments on images.  If you are having trouble viewing this e-mail or if it doesn't look great ... you may need to add us to your safe sender list ... which will allow the images to download automatically.  Also, with the design and implementation of our web-store, the e-mail format and Nancy's blog, we have found that Mozilla Firefox web-browser seems to provide the most consistent viewing experience.  We tried to make everything compatible with as many browsers as possible ... but somethings will never be perfect ... these are just our suggestions.

We have also added a link at the top of the page to view our Web-Letter in a web browser.  This could be extremely helpful if you are like Tim and have Microsoft Outlook 2007 for your e-mail program.
The New Year is Here ...
May your new year be filled with journey's that fill you with joy.  May you learn to love and care for yourself, that you may love and care for others.  May you live life in a manner that you are pleased with yourself and in so doing find this is how you'll, more often than not, please the other people in your life.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

God bless,
from all of us at Knitted Together
