October News
Greetings!

Cool evenings and beautiful fall days have been the image trademarked of this wonderful season we're in.  The illustration is continuing as we experience the now ever changing of the autumn colors in the landscape around us.  Here at Knitted Together, those autumn colors seem to coincide so well with our new fall selection of yarns.  It just makes us a little giddy as we begin to work with all the colors and fibers.  We wish we could show you all of what we are talking about, but unfortunately there is not enough space here and even our website department is unable to keep up with all the new arrivals ... so you're going to have to come into the store to check it all out.  We will showcase three new yarns in a following section, so keep reading.

In the sections to follow we will be updating you on the October class schedule, the Friday Night Knit Club, and of course a few of our new yarns.  First we would like to mention our newest addition at Knitted Together, that's going to help you get ready for Christmas celebration ...

Holiday Workshops.  Starting on the first Saturday in November, the 6th to be precise, we will be offering one hour workshops to help get you started on a project that you may want to use as a gift for someone on your list.  Each workshop will get you started, teach a technique and then prepare you to finish on your own.  Each project will be fairly quick to knit, allowing you to complete gifts for multiple people on your list.  We are also entertaining the idea of doing some workshops during the week on possibly Wednesday afternoon ... so stay tuned for more info in the weeks to come.  We'll post these on our website and shoot you an email with all the info as they develop.

Featured Yarns!
As we were saying, there are so many new yarns this fall it is really difficult to showcase them all.  Some are new colors, some are new to us  and some are so brand spanking new that we just got our first look at an entire skein when we opened the box.  The three yarns we have chosen to feature here are just such yarns, viewed only as strands when ordering as they were still in the spinning and dying process.  To our delight, opening the boxes revealed amazing yarns and we found ourselves extremely glad we had ordered them.

Araucania Yarns is inspired by ancient Chilean crafts made from hand painted natural yarns.
The company was born when Nora Bierschwale, textile designer and her daughter Michelle Boisier, architect, decided to combine their talents and experience with the mission to create and produce beautiful and one-off yarns for the global market, employing ancient and traditional techniques which reflect Chile's ethnic origins.  Each hank is different; its individual beauty emerges as the artisans blend colours to create several unique, interwoven shades.  Araucania Yarns is very proud to support local, sustainable job development, creating a new generation of skilled artisans in Chile.  Each hank sold means more opportunities, more jobs and more hope.

Araucania MilodonAraucania Milodon:
This beautiful hand painted 100% wool yarn comes in a 202 yard hank with colorful tweeded flecks.

Araucania LiwenAraucania Liwen:
Dawn in the region of Araucania is something unforgettable ... the mapuches call it liwen.  This yarn lives up to its name; 50% superfine alpaca and 50% wool creates a thick-n-thin fun to knit yarn in unforgettable hand dyed colours.

Hopefully by now you've heard our pitch on the MIRASOL PROJECT.  Shepherds continuing their traditions of tending their animals and producing luxurious fibers from the Peruvian Highlands, each purchase you make helps to support the children from this culture as the Mirasol Project Yarns give back to the community, helping to build hospitals and schools.  Read more at www.mirasolperu.com.

Mirasol UshyaMirasol Ushya:
Our newest line in the Mirasol Project, 98% merino wool and 2% polymide in a super bulky weight, is less dense than most, making it a great choice for a bulky garment in a little lighter weight.  The "braided" strands of yarn in amazing heathered shades will give your project incredible articulation.

COME & SEE ... these and the rest of our fall festival of yarns ... you won't be disappointed!

Images ... having trouble viewing?
We would like to make a few comments on images.  If you are having trouble viewing this e-mail or if it doesn't look great ... you may need to add us to your safe sender list ... which will allow the images to download automatically.  Also, with the design and implementation of our web-store, the e-mail format and Nancy's blog, we have found that Mozilla Firefox web-browser seems to provide the most consistent viewing experience.  We tried to make everything compatible with as many browsers as possible ... but somethings will never be perfect ... these are just our suggestions.

We have also added a link at the top of the page to view our Web-Letter in a web browser.  This could be extremely helpful if you are like Tim and have Microsoft Outlook 2007 for your e-mail program.
Think Globally, Act Locally!
This is a phrase that is discussed a lot these days.  To us, it means that there is an interconnectedness of life on this planet and that each of us has a responsibility to understand how our actions affect the world.  To think that we have no impact on the world because we are just an individual with limited resources, just isn't true.  That is why here at Knitted Together, we partner locally with organizations like local food pantries and have food drives, and our new favorite "Family Directions of Iowa", who are about promoting strong and healthy families.  Recently we filled a huge box of school supply donations that will continue to be passed along to families in need, throughout the school year by FDOI ... thank you so much to all of you who donated.  We are already planning our next event with Family Directions, which will allow us to have a party (think shower), while promoting and contributing to the pre-natal and post-natal care of teen mothers and their babies who are in need.

One more point we would like to make on this subject, that we believe will connect the dots globally, is about something we hope you have already noticed.  We love partnering with yarn companies like Araucania and Mirasol Project, who make it possible to "act locally" and truly have a "global impact".  Through the hard work they have done in advance, by establishing relationships and enacting their own fair trade ideals and then giving back some of the profits from the products they sell, they have made it possible for us and you to use our "Power of Choice" to economically impact people globally.  Please believe us when we tell you that, speaking economics into underdeveloped communities creates more than food ... it builds hope and leads to freedom.  We are proud and honored to partner with these and other companies ... if you'd like to know more, just ask us next time your in.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

God bless,
from all of us at Knitted Together
