2K10, The Year of Education
Greetings!

We would like to ask you to join us in welcoming in the New Year ... the year 2K10 as we are calling it.  For us, the new year is a time to start a new season of our lives and feel as though there is something we can do to bring about change and add some freshness to what we do and how we live.  You may have heard it said, "life is 10% what you're dealt and 90% how you deal with it."  That is exactly what we're talking about.  So we are looking forward to this new year, as an opportunity to change some of the things in our destiny that we do have control over.

For the past month or so we have been asking ourselves, "what would the future here at Knitted Together look like for the year 2K10." As we listened for an answer we realized that we needed to start by looking into the past.  Our store has always had a great focus on "community" ... a place where knitters could come together and share projects and their lives ... being "knit together".  We also, obviously love to focus on yarns ... we enjoy showcasing really exciting new fresh yarns, as well as maintaining a solid base of the foundation yarns that you know and trust.  This led us to what is really the third part of the formula ... a responsibility that we have to the industry and the community ... our GOAL for 2K10 ... teaching and education!

So why education?  Why 2K10?  For a whole year?  Yes there are lots of questions we may all have about this ... and we are even going to ask for your help answering some of those questions ... so be sure to read the section under classes.  To start with, here are a few of our answers.  First, because teaching focuses on you ... it's our opportunity to serve you.  Second, because classes focus on community ... you can take them with your friends, or I can guarantee you, having watched the people in the "Beginning Knitting" class the other day, you'll have a new friend by the time it's over.  Really, these people were laughing and joking ... it was quite enjoyable to listen to.  Third, because we can take the exciting yarns that we showcase and fulfill our responsibility, by teaching you new techniques and even "Project" classes that focus on specific yarns for specific projects.  Essentially, instead of just selling you great yarns, we are going to partner with you to achieve great projects.  You may have seen our advertisements in the past "Rest, Relax & Renew" ... we feel like nothing will renew or "RECHARGE" you like learning something new.  We heard the shepherd of a flock once say, "one step better than revelation is reality" ... meaning it's good to hear an awesome sermon, but learning to walk it everyday is much more life changing.  Life changing is a power that recharges us.  Our hope for you in 2K10 is that you will be recharged.

Now be sure to read the following sections to see just the beginning of the things we have in store for you!
"Knit Togethers"
K-togs as we refer to them have always been quite popular and are a great way to learn new techniques as well as enjoy community.  If you visit the Events page of our website regularly, and we hope you do, you will notice we are shaking things up a little bit so that fun doesn't become "same old, same old".

To start with, we are taking a break from our regularly scheduled Tuesday evening K-tog, in order to make room for some evening classes.  So, until further notice we will be scheduling a class on Tuesday evenings starting in February (the January K-tog will still finish the December project).  Check out the Classes page on our website to find out more about Jean's "toe-up" sock class, the first of many classes on Tuesday evenings.

Another change to K-togs in 2K10 is that most will now be two month projects.  This will allow us more time with each of you and allow you more time to finish your project.  Regardless, the first session of each  K-Tog will be your opportunity to work with the instructor to get that special attention to help pick out the yarn that will make this project your very own.

Be sure to check out the Thursday evening K-tog, "make a moebius".  Nancy says there is still time to join ... reason being ... once you learn the cast-on, knitting the moebius is very quick.  She says that most of the group have decided to start at least one more before the month is over.  Some have decided they would make great Christmas gifts ... talk about planning, wow!

In addition, we have added a Friday afternoon K-tog called "The Wrap Group".  This is definitely a first of it's kind at Knitted Together.  To steal a line from our own website ... 'The Wrap Group is one K-Tog with two locations, which means that it meets every Friday afternoon at Knitted Together, but can also be followed online as a virtual K-Tog on Nancy's blog, "K2Tog with Nancy Wyatt". Go to The Wrap Group page for more information about the group, how to follow, and what projects to expect.'  Whether you participate in the store or on-line you will really enjoy the time spent with Carol and the fabulous yet simple wraps she's gonna introduce you to.  In fact we're so excited we almost broke into a rap just to tell you about it ... but it just didn't work.
Classes
When you visit our Class List page ... you'll notice that currently we are high on sock classes.  That's probably not going to change anytime soon, since as one knitter put it, "knitting socks is more addictive that smoking crack" ... sounds much healthier and as Nancy says a lot of love goes into a pair of socks.  You'll even notice that we have a new sock class for February called the "toe-up" sock and will be taught by Jean.  Speaking of Jean, she has been here a few months but is no newcomer to knitting.  A longtime friend of Nancy, she has returned to the Greater Des Moines  area and Nancy is thrilled to have her back in town and on our staff.  We are working on an invigorating line-up of classes that Jean will be teaching in 2K10 from our "techniques" and "project" class lists.

2K10 is going to break down into quarters and categories.  Each quarter will focus on a variety of classes from each category.  The categories are pretty simple, foundation, technique, project and aggregate.  Foundation classes teach knitting and how to's.  Technique classes for example teach things like "fair isle", "magic loop", "lace" and so on.  Project classes will teach from a specific pattern, using specific yarns.  Aggregate classes, also called enhancers will help the knitter learn the seemingly hidden secrets that turn stitches and techniques into nicely finished projects ... and may even include a series of classes called a camp.

As we mentioned earlier, we are looking for your help to answer some of the questions about how we will serve you through education in 2K10.  We are developing a survey to find out more about our lifeline ... you!  In our short survey we hope you will answer the questions to help us tailor our classes and schedules so that we may best accommodate you.  By answering the questions honestly we will be able to find out more about you in an anonymous way.  For your help we will reward you!  So keep an eye out for a web-letter from Knitted Together being delivered in the next week or so, with a link to our survey.  At the end of the survey you'll find your reward.

We want you to know about another awesome way to stay connected to us in 2K10 ... where we will be sharing tips, tricks and secrets ... and you don't even have to leave your home.  It's Nancy's Blog.  That's right, with the click of a mouse you can step into Nancy's world as she share stories and recipes with her friends in her own sweet style.  Now in 2K10 she is adding knitting tips ... some her own ... some she's read ... some from publications and still others from her readers.  We've even heard talk that some tips may be in video.  Wow ... Carol's virtual K-tog and Nancy's knitting tips ... what more reasons do you need to follow her blog?  Okay, here's one more, we also heard a rumor that she's going to share coupon codes for blog readers only ... coming spring 2K10.

Images ... having trouble viewing?
We would like to make a few comments on images.  If you are having trouble viewing this e-mail or if it doesn't look great ... you may need to add us to your safe sender list ... which will allow the images to download automatically.  Also, with the design and implementation of our web-store, the e-mail format and Nancy's blog, we have found that Mozilla Firefox web-browser seems to provide the most consistent viewing experience.  We tried to make everything compatible with as many browsers as possible ... but somethings will never be perfect ... these are just our suggestions.

We have also added a link at the top of the page to view our Web-Letter in a web browser.  This could be extremely helpful if you are like Tim and have Microsoft Outlook 2007 for your e-mail program.
Happy New Year ... All Year Long!!!
Often we meet people in our store that know how to knit, but, when we show them projects to knit they comment, "oh I could never do that".  Mostly, these are not that difficult of projects, yet somehow this person has never had someone show them how easy it is.  In 2K10 we want to commit to showing you how easy it is.

Today is an awesome day to let the year 2010 be a year of opportunity.  Stop letting the days blend together one into the next and start living each and every day on purpose with a purpose.  Start by telling the people closest to you how much you love them and how much you need them ... then put those words into action and live your life like you mean it.  Put it on your calendar everyday, so that you don't forget in a few weeks.  Soon living with a purpose will become a habit and it will change you and the people around you.

Now charge yourself with the task to learn new things this year.  Learn things about yourself, and about others.  Learn how to do something you were sure you couldn't.  Before you know it, your batteries will be RECHARGED and you will be ready for each day.  Remember it isn't just rest and relax ... it's REST, RELAX & RENEW!

God bless,
from all of us at Knitted Together
