Greetings!
The Theatre finished out its 2010-2011 season with a real bang on May 21, boasting a sell-out performance by jazz extrordinaire Boney James. Of course, people immediately started asking us about next season and we're pleased to say the lineup has now been completed. In celebration of our 35 years of service to the High Point community, the theatre's Professional Artists Series will lean heavily toward the blues/jazz genre with what we're calling our "Hot Blues, Cool Jazz" series. This series will include 6 of today's hottest jazz/blues artists live in concert, plus an exciting lineup of 3 very diverse family-friendly performances, and 1 Country-Pop concert that's sure to rock you out of your seat. We want to make sure our dedicated supporters are the first to know about the 2011-2012 season so expect an announcement from us in a few weeks with all of the exciting details. In the meantime, we have plenty of events scheduled throughout June - take a look at our calendar of events to see the numerous dance recitals, High Point Ballet performances or other concerts/events coming up this month. Sincerely, David Briggs, Director |

Friends of the Theatre Hold Annual Awards Dinner

Volunteers are the life-blood of any great organization and the High Point Theatre is no exception. Approximately 30 volunteers and invited guests came together on Monday evening, May 23, to honor the pool of dedicated individuals who contribute their time and effort to assure every visitor
attending events at the Theatre receives the richest experience possible. During the Theatre's most recent 2010-2011 season, 52 volunteers participated in approximately 101 events ranging from concerts by nationally known artists to children's live theatre productions, from Bodybuilding and Beauty pageant competitions to N.C. Shakespeare Festival performances, contributing a total of 2,142 manhours.
Congratulations to this year's Volunteer of the Year, Jan Benner. Jan was selected by meeting and exceeding all of the standards set forth by the organization's volunteer program. Kathryn Gaffney, a student of Weaver Academy, Greensboro, was announced as the recipient of the Friends of the Theatre scholarship for 2011. An outstanding vocal talent, Kathryn will be attending Coastal Carolina in the fall with a major in Musical Theatre.

Boney James WOWS His Fans!

Fans who came to see Boney James on Saturday evening, May 21, were not disappointed! Playing to a sold-out crowd, the charismatic highly-polished saxophonist,
drifted out into the auditorium on several occasions, picked some very lucky lady out of the audience, and performed a personal selection just for her, much to the delight (and envy) of all others. After the show, people stood in line for an hour just to pick up a copy of his latest CD and have an opportunity to meet the star in person. Boney James is one of those performers who connects with his audience in a way seldom seen by any artist at any venue - they love him and he gives them his all...it was an evening best described as pure magic!
