Greetings!
Please let me introduce myself, I am David Briggs, the new Director of the High Point Theatre. I am delighted and honored to have been chosen from a wide ranging candidate pool to be your new Director.
Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter, I hope you will find the information useful, and entertaining. High Point Theatre has a reputation in the region and state of presenting wonderful touring attractions, as well as the superb local events produced by the NC Shakespeare Festival, and High Point Community Theatre. We are proud of the relationships that have been developed over the years, and I look forward to forging new relationships and growing our audience base.
I have been in the arts presenting business either behind the curtain, or in front since 1983. I have been a teacher, director, designer, producer and presenter of the arts. My most recent position was as the Executive Director of Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and prior to that as the Director of the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir, NC an affiliate of Caldwell Community College.
Our final two events of the 2010/11 season are Juice Newton and Boney James. Both of these artists have made a mark in their respective worlds; Juice Newton was an original country/pop performer with her big success coming in the early '80's with "Angel of the Morning" and later in the decade hit the charts with "Loves Been A Little Bit Hard On Me". Boney James is an off the charts Jazz/R&B Saxophone performer, with an incredibly hot band. Boney's work is first rate, and if you love Jazz or R&B you won't want to miss this one.
Next season is shaping up, and we will be rolling it out to the public in July. I think you will enjoy the events that we are planning. As part of our mailing list you will be among the first to hear about the upcoming events, and take advantage of being the first to purchase tickets.
I appreciate that each of you are supporters of High Point Theatre, and encourage you to check out the Friends of the Theatre as a means of additional support for the venue. This is a wonderful organization of volunteers that help with events at the theatre, and raise money for additional needs that are not met by our operating budget.
I have an open door policy, and hope that if you have a question, concern, problem or praise that you will contact me at 336-883-3627 or david.briggs@highpointnc.gov
I look forward to working with you, and serving as the HPT Director.
Respectfully,
David S. Briggs |
