Skills Shortage?
Not if an Employee Retention Plan is in place!
SURE, we are all aware that there have been times (recently) when it was extremely difficult to hire anyone reliable. A market downturn such as we have recently experienced is a good time to streamline, train and prepare for the inevitable turnaround. And having plans to retain valued employees is more cost-effective than trying to replace them. METALEX has such plans, uses them, and they have proven invaluable in keeping such valued employees.
AND like other solution providers, Engineering firms are only as credible as the components and services they provide. This is why more Engineers rely on METALEX to "take care of business - right the first time", than any other Metal Building fabricator/erector. It is also why METALEX relies on some of the best Engineers to design solutions that perform beyond expectations.
WE understand and prepare for seasonal cycles and market surges. And we value our employees and use any available time to refine processes, retool equipment, train employees and be well-positioned for the eventual upswing. We prefer to "hit the

Western Canada Drilling Stats
If you draw any relation between your business, the economy, and the amount of drilling activity in Canada, the drilling statistics below might interest you. Below, you will find the latest week this year compared to last year. 
Comparing this single week, year to year (2008 to 2009), Alberta has more than one-third the active rigs during this past week. BC and Saskatchewan have less than one half, while Manitoba is up from 6 to 8. All together we have about 40% rig activity compared to this week last year. But it is climbing, and the general consensus is positive. And remember how chaotic it was this time last year? A closer look identifies that Alberta has reduced its resident rig count by nearly 10% although overall the number of rigs in Western Canada in total has remained nearly the same (down 3%).
If you derive your revenue from the Oil & Gas industries, this is like a roller coaster ride. Hang on and don't spill your popcorn, here comes another hill!

Building buildings is what we do best. And once again, we are expanding our Stettler fabrication facility to serve you better!
CONSTRUCTION continues on our facility consolidation plan. Completion is expected before summer's end. Environmental designs are helping us control costs and set new building standards.
METALEX is combining its Stettler self-framer and foam panel fabricating facility and adding increased material handling and construction capabilities. This consolidation of divisions will also reduce travel, inventory and overhead and make us even more competitive than before! One more LEAN initiative under our belt! | |
