| Highlights from Our 23rd Annual Gala | |
enAble of Georgia Foundation's "Dare to Dream" Gala held on Saturday, March 12 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia was, to many, the best ever. The event was a tremendous success in countless ways and we wonder how we will make it even better in years to come. That's a great challenge to have and we will rise to the occasion! We greatly appreciate every volunteer who worked, every monetary donation made, and every suggestion given that contributed to the success of this Gala. We will report final net proceeds from the Gala in next month's newsletter, so stay tuned!
Tex Crossin Award Winner - Galen Kilburn, Jr.
Galen was chosen as this year's Tex Crossin Award winner because he exemplifies the love for and dedication to the individuals served by enAble that Tex personified. Galen has been a volunteer enAble Board member for several years and had chaired our Annual Golf Classic for nine consecutive years. He and his lovely wife Anna have two daughters served by enAble, Gwen and Marianne. We greatly appreciate Galen for his kindness, generosity, and selflessness and congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition.
Inspiration Award Winner - Matthew McWhorter
The Inspiration Award is given annual to an individual served by enAble who inspires everyone to reach for the stars and illuminates the hearts of others. Matthew views each day as a new opportunity to meet someone new, do something great, and advocate for his friends. He is always the first one to say, "How can I help?" He has been an enAble Board Member and volunteers for several other organizations. Matthew reminds us of the possibilities, not the disabilities as he graciously accepts the fact that he will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He possesses the unique talent of being able to "read" others and helps those who are not able to speak for themselves. He inspires us to take the time to really listen with our eyes, ears, and hearts.
"Dare to Dream" Community Ambassador Award
John Pruitt is an individual who has used his celebrity, visibility, and stature to be a force for positive change within the community. Because of his willingness to serve and help those in need, John is recognized in metro-Atlanta not only as an esteemed television news anchor but also as a caring and compassionate individual who gives generously of his time and talent to help others. John is an active volunteer with many groups, and it is because of his lifelong commitment to improving the quality of life in our community that he was recognized with enAble's first ever Community Ambassador Award.
Silent and Live Auctions
The Silent Auction was filled with hundreds of interesting, unique items, several of which could not be purchased anywhere. Additionally, the Live Auction was peppered with fabulous prizes auctioned off by the energetic Matt Holiday, who expertly engaged the guests and helped make it a lively process.
Fund-A-Need
A wonderful ending to the evening's program was the Fund-A-Need portion of the Live Auction in which enAble raised money for its Medical Assistance Fund (MAF). The MAF directly benefits the indivduals we serve who require medical care that is not covered by their Medicare funding and not covered through other means of financial support. This additional coverage is paid for by enAble and is not reimbursed. We were awed by and extremely grateful for the outpouring of love and generosity of everyone who gave not only during the Fund-A-Need, but throughout the evening as well. Thank you! |

In Memoriam - Ira Hall, Jr. | |
| | October 24, 1967 - March 6, 2011 |
Ira and enAble were a family. We will always remember his big smile, his hug that would take your breath away, and his indomitable
spirit. Ira loved all sports and his favorite teams were the Braves, Falcons, and Thrashers. Imagine his joy when he was not only given the Inspiration Award at the 21st Annual Gala in 2009, but his excitement when former Falcon R.C. Thielemann presented him with the award, a mini helmet, and a Falcons cap! Ira adored race cars, the musical artist Prince, and had many friends. He always helped others when they were struggling by giving them words of encouragement.
Many of those who cared for Ira gathered at a touching memorial service at enAble's Buffington Center offices on Tuesday, March 15. While it was a sad occasion, we were comforted in knowing that Ira was well loved and loved us in return. We'll miss you, Ira! |
