17th Annual enAble Golf Classic

Crabapple GDOSThis year, our Golf Classic will be held Tuesday, October 12 at the Alpharetta Athletic Club East Course. We anticipate hosting more than 100 golfers as we raise funds to support our mission of enabling those we serve to enjoy greater independence and full community inclusion. More specifically, the funds raised will go towards paying for medical and dental care not covered by Medicaid, as well as for the upkeep of our fleet of vans used to transport the individuals to and from their jobs, volunteer commitments, places of worship, and more.

Presenting Sponsorships are available for sponsors seeking extraordinary recognition and visibility. Annual Premier Sponsors support enAble on an annual basis and receive special recognition at every major event. For pricing and to discuss these two levels of support, please contact Dean Jordan at djordan@enablega.org or 770-664-4347, ext. 108.

Corporate Sponsor Highlight

Daryl O., Debbie B., Sharon S. & Bobby B.
Crabapple GDOS
We are very grateful to two enAble supporters for their funding that allowed the purchase of a new 2010 Toyota Sienna passenger van for the Old Ellis Road Day Services center.

The Ida Alice Ryan Charitable Trust was established in 1953 to support Atlanta-based charitable institutions. enAble applied to the trust in 2009 for a grant, and received majority funding for the van's purchase through our Vehicle Maintenance and Replacement Program. Additionally, Automation Direct, a locally-based player in the industrial automation market, founded in 1994, provided funding to help complete the purchase.

enAble appreciates these generous donor organizations that understand that their gifts are not only being used to support a large fleet of vehicles, but more importantly, what the vehicles do.

In Atlanta's car-centric environment, our vehicles are used to connect the people we serve to their jobs, houses of worship, volunteer commitments, program services, medical and dental appointments, and all of the myriad errands and activities that round out a person's life. Without support from the Ida Alice Ryan Charitable Trust, Automation Direct, and many others, it would be exceedingly difficult to maintain the comfort and safety of enAble's fleet of 24 vehicles.

Employee Spotlight

Crabapple GDOSWillie Grove, an 11-year enAble staff member, is the winner of ANCOR's (American Network of Community Options and Resources) 2010 Georgia Direct Support Professional of the Year. Willie is a humble, thoughtful person who has served a total of 28 years in the field and enhanced the lives of many by supporting their independence and connections to natural supports in the community.

Everyday, Willie works to establish person-centered supports for those he serves at enAble by indentifying through collaborative, professional relationships with individuals and all support team members, the preferences and individual needs indicated by each person. Ask any of the individuals served and they will all agree that Willie has a deep voice and a gentle soul that touch their lives in many ways. Willie believes that good interventions can make the world a better place for all people.

ANCOR's 2008 and 2009 Georgia Direct Support Professional of the Year winners, Silvia Flockhart and Steve Harris, respectively, are also enAble staff members. We are incredibly proud of our staff and the positive impact they have on those they serve and the community.

Volunteer Spotlight

Cathy and Connie S. at enAble's 2010 Gala
Crabapple GDOS
For half a year now, enAble's Day Services center in Roswell has found Cathy Law devoting her Mondays assisting people we serve. Cathy had a sister with Down syndrome and wanted to give back by assisting individuals with developmental disabilities. While volunteering with the Archdiocese of Atlanta at Toni's Camp Retreat, Cathy was partnered with Gwen K., a person served by enAble. She found the experience so rewarding that she sought out enAble

Cathy leads a very full life as a wife and mother to four active children. Over the summer, Cathy has included some of her children in her volunteer experience. Amy Hines, enAble's Director of Day & Employment Services, shared, "Cathy is an awesome person and volunteer. She is dependable, dedicated, and has taken our mission to another level. She is a natural support and glowing example of how to execute enAble's mission. The people in Day Services eagerly look forward to her arrival."

Further, Amy Vergith, Support Manager of Day & Employment Services, had equal praise. "Cathy is organized, creative, and is willing to help wherever needed. Her presence speaks volumes to people served as her easygoing nature provides comfort for relaxed communication."

We are grateful to Cathy and all the volunteers who help enhance the lives of the individuals we support. For information on how to volunteer with enAble, please contact the Development Team at devteam@enablega.org or 770-664-4347, ext. 106.
Corporate Matching Gifts

Crabapple GDOSCorporate matching gifts are a great way for family members and friends to maximize personal contributions to enAble and increase the impact of their gift. By taking advantage of a company's matching gift benefit, you may be able to double or even triple the amount of a contribution.

How do I get my gift matched?

First, determine whether your company has a matching gift program by asking your Human Resources office or contacting Dean Jordan at djordan@enablega.org. Each company has its own guidelines for employees, spouses, retirees, and widows/widowers. Most corporate procedures are simple:

- Request a Matching Form from your company.
- Complete and submit the form to enAble along with your gift.
- enAble will verify the completed form and return it to the company.
- The company issues a matching gift contribution to enAble.

Completed forms can be sent with your personal gift to:

Tom and Michelle Davis with Alfred C.
Crabapple GDOS

The home of Tom and Michelle Davis proved to be a fabulous environment for enAble's second Wine Auction. Not only was the event a financial success, but it was also a marvelous assemblage of people enjoying an exceptional experience.

Said Auctioneer Matt Holiday, "The intimate setting created a wonderful spirit of giving that many organizations struggle to achieve...I'm not sure all non profits could pull off what you did...You were able to bring together the people you serve, family, and their friends in a lovely  home with good food and wine." One of the highlights of the evening was individuals served partaking in the bidding festivities. They paired with donors and laughter filled the room during this competitive bidding process.

We are truly grateful to all who helped make this evening a success.

We Salute You, Billy!
Crabapple GDOS

A very special person served by enAble for 16 years, John William "Billy" Hughes, passed away on June 27. Billy resided at our East Hembree home with his housemates: Henry, Bobby N., David, and Michael. He was quite fond of baseball and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Billy admired the work of firemen and policemen, and proudly displayed related items in his home.

Billy liked working in Day Services and making his own money. He had a girlfriend and loved being part of his community. His family expressed their gratitude for the level of support he received at enAble, and how he flourished through the years.

Billy will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
