Supported Employment Spotlight

Crabapple GDOSMelissa Crawley began working at enAble's South Fulton office in January 2004 shortly after she was laid off from her job at TGIFriday's. She is dedicated to her role as an Office Assistant and loves to keep busy. Melissa greets each visitor to the office with a warm smile and makes them feel welcome. She also files, makes copies and faxes documents, and organizes medication cycles every other week for the people served. Melissa enjoys checking her e-mail and working on her computer. One of her goals is to enroll in a class to learn more about computers to improve her skills. When asked what she likes best about her job, Melissa answered, "I love earning a paycheck and interacting with people."

Marshall Port 2Marshall Port was hired as an Office Assistant in January 2009 at our North Fulton office and quickly became an invaluable asset to enAble's staff. He previously worked at Scottsdale Farms Nursery and volunteered at North Fulton Community Charities. He answers and transfers incoming calls with patience and friendliness. Marshall keeps track of office supplies, receives and distributes incoming mail, signs for packages, and is ready to help with any task. Most importantly, Marshall greets visitors to the office with his trademark charm and helpfulness. Each time a staff member or visitor thanks Marshall for his helpfulness, his quick response is always, "That's what I'm here for, to help."

Thank you, Melissa and Marshall, for the excellent work you do for enAble.
Planned Giving

Why should I make a planned gift?

Many people want to make charitable gifts but need to do so in a way that helps meet their other personal, family, or financial needs. Planned gifts give you options for making your charitable gifts in ways that may allow you to:

- Make a larger charitable gift than you thought possible
- Increase your current income
- Plan for the financial needs of a spouse or loved one
- Provide inheritances for your heirs at a reduced tax cost
- Reduce your income tax and/or avoid capital gains tax
- Diversify your investment portfolio
- Receive income from your personal residence or farm
- Plan for the transfer of your business
- Leave a charitable legacy for future generations.

Rain Fails to Dampen Volunteers' Spirits

GDOS 1We are very grateful for the generous contributions of time, talent, and treasure from our friends at several area United Methodist churches through their Great Day of Service projects. Despite scattered rain showers, bug bites, and a nasty patch of poison ivy, these volunteers have brightened the homes on which they worked and brought joy to the people we serve who live there. Thank you, one and all!

- Northbrook UMC (Michael Hopperton, Project Chair) planted flowers, put out mulch and pine straw, and stained the wheelchair ramp and rails at the Grimes Place Group Home on Saturday, April 24 and Thursday, April 28.
- Alpharetta UMC (Michael Hendrickson, Project Chair) pressure-washed the deck, deck furniture, swing, and carport, planted flowers, and put out pine straw at the Lynne Circle Group Home on Saturday, April 24.

enAble Awarded a
 UPS Foundation Grant
Crabapple GDOS

enAble was awarded a $7,500 Community Initiative Grant this month from the UPS Foundation. This makes the second consecutive year that enAble has been invited to apply for the grant based on several UPS employees' volunteerism at the agency.

In 2008 and 2009, UPS staff members took part in Hands on Atlanta Day in October and completed service projects at enAble's Roswell administrative offices and Day Services center. The grant award will be used for Day Services improvements. Lenard Street, Damon Horton, and David Lasley (not pictured) of UPS presented enAble with the check on June 17 at the agency's Volunteer Appreciation Picnic.

Thank you, UPS Foundation!
Will Albers Earns
 Eagle Scout Badge
Crabapple GDOSWill Albers earned his Eagle Scout Badge volunteering for enAble of Georgia in March 2010. Will built a retaining wall near the driveway at enAble's Crabapple Group Home in Roswell, as well as a new platform to hold garbage cans.

Will also planted six shrubs around the garbage can platform. After completing this project (for which he had to raise $800), Will had money left over which he donated to enAble. He officially became an Eagle Scout on May 27 and his Court of Honor took place on June 4.

Good job, Will!
