Volunteering is a great way to keep your skills sharp, keep your mind active or develop new skills while serving your community.  If you are interested in any of the assignments listed below, please give us a call for more information. We ask that you share this newsletter with friends who want to volunteer.

Join The Fight For Healthy Futures For Our Children!

This month we feature Cooking Matters and Growing Healthy Kids, two programs of  All Faiths Food Bank to reach out to more than 500 children, teaching them the value of healthy eating and physical exercise. 

Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. Healthy lifestyle habits, including healthy eating and physical activity, can lower the risk of becoming obese and developing related diseases.

own Advisory Council. If you have a passion for solving community needs this is the perfect volunteer assignment for you. We are looking for someone with the following professional skills:

Share Your Skills as a Career Mentor

RSVP Sarasota is partnering with CareerEdge, a nonprofit focusing on retraining and retooling the unemployed in Sarasota County. Use your experience and life skills to mentor CareerEdge clients to find new opportunities in employment.  People with good listenting skills and the ability to form supportive relationships are best suited for this opportunity.  Time commitment varies.

Did you know that volunteering not only benefits your community but your health too?  The Corporation for National and Community Service has compiled research that confirms health benefits that inclue lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer.  So, why NOT volunteer?

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Sarasota County (RSVP Sarasota) is a federally funded program through the Corporation for National & Community Service sponsored by Senior Friendship Centers, Inc.
  
RSVP Sarasota provides individuals with opportunities for community engagement with assignments that address critical local community needs, such as Senior and Childhood Nutrition, Health Services, Veterans Support, Job Development and many others.
  
RSVP Sarasota enrolls individuals over the age of 55 who are looking to share their talents with our partner organizations serving Sarasota County.  RSVP provides supplemental accident and liability insurance while volunteering as well as orientation before starting an assignment, recognition for their service, innovative ways to enjoy retirement, and a chance to be a part of a national movement to improve our communities.
