To Much or Not Enough on Your TemPLATE.
Not all products are sized perfectly to accept an image at the aspect ratio it was shot in. Some of our products are square, some are panoramic, and some are even round. This is one reason why we provide Photoshop templates for many of the products we offer here at Black River Imaging. This will also help when you are designing items such as book covers or gallery wraps with custom borders.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when using our provided templates.
- If we provide a PSD template for a product that template is more accurate than the ROES template. Let's say you are designing a gallery wrap with a solid border in Photoshop using our provided PSD template and you have it all perfectly lined up. Once you flatten the image and load it in the ROES ordering software it may look like the border is actually off. Don't worry. As long as you followed the PSD template it will wrap correctly. The ROES templates aren't exact and that's another reason we offer the PSD templates.
- Pay attention to the layers and the layer names. Many of the layers say delete before you flatten or save. This is a very important step in the process of using our templates. If you can still see the blue mask included in all of our templates after you flatten and save the image it may still not work for the product you are ordering.
- Keep in mind that photo cover books, photo boxes, and photo CD cases all have "lids" and the wrapped area my still be visible once the lid or cover is opened. It's a good idea to extend your image beyond the inside edge of the wrapped area mask all the way to the edge of the template. The same applies for Float Mounts since the edge of the float mount is beveled. Extend the image at least an inch beyond the inside edge of the wrapped area mask in the template. This will prevent any added border from being visible from the sides.
- If we don't offer a template for the product you are ordering you probably don't need one. However, if you have concerns about trimming or the layout of a product, please don't hesitate to call Customer Service.
If you're not using Photoshop we can also provide the overall area and wrap area dimensions for any product we offer. Please call us if you have any questions.
