What is an Advocate?
An advocate is someone who pleads on someone else's behalf. One of the roles of a care manager is to be an advocate for their clients. The care manager's primary client is always the person with the impairment or disability. Although the family and other support systems are important and may be considered a secondary client, the focus is always on the primary client first. | Greetings!
I can hardly believe fall is here. The kids are going back to school and summer vacations are winding down. Fall is a great time to pull together some photos of summer activities to share with someone who suffers from a memory disorder. Be sure to write on the back what you are doing, where you are and who is in the picture. You can even include the relationship of the person in the photo to the person you are sharing the photos with. This gives you and the caregiver something fun to discuss with the memory impaired person and will most likely trigger other conversations about the past.
I hope you enjoy our inaugural issue of Desert Gazette, Desert Care Management's newsletter. We welcome any comments or suggestions you may have, as we strive to make this publication a resource for our friends, families and colleagues.
Have a great fall!

Questions to Ask Potential Nursing-Home Facilities
By Fox Business
Choosing a nursing home for a loved one is an emotional and financially stressful process, but with careful planning and thorough questioning the process can be a bit easier.
Before choosing a nursing home, consumers should visit potential facilities more than once, preferably during three different shifts and carefully observe what's happening around them, the experts suggest.
Questions to Ask before a Visit:
 1. Is the facility licensed by the state? "Be sure the facility is licensed by the state and check the state's licensing bureau to make sure there are no major violations cited," Heather Frenette, RN and certified geriatric care manager, says. "Many states have this information online." To continue reading this article click here. |
