Grass Fed Beef Now Available for Purchase in Individual Pieces

How many of us REALLY know where our food comes from?  We encourage you to watch the highly popular 2009 documentary Food Inc.  What an eye-opener!

Remember, good meats are GOOD for you.  Many common health and ethical concerns over eating meat are caused by highly industrialized animal production and food processing that leaves us wondering what we are really eating.  Purchasing meat raised on a small farm where animals are treated with respect and actually see growing grass, feeding the animals only with foods nature intended them to eat, and processing without adding industrial chemicals to enhance color or modify flavor is our choice as consumers.

We personally try our best in our own home to eat only grass fed beef (not corn-fed beef), free range chicken, and pork processed without the use of unhealthy preservative chemicals.  Yes, we eat bacon and ham - and lots of it, but only nitrate free.  Grass fed beef is available from the Mahalko Grass Fed Farm  - owned and operated by Dr Ben's dad and brother.  A website with more information is currently in the works.

Many of you have expressed interest in purchasing grass fed beef by individual pieces instead of by the full quarter or half. We now have packages of beef for individual purchase.  Just tell Dawn what you would like - we have a freezer in the back of our office.

PS: Just try one pound of grass-fed hamburger.  You may be suprised how much better it tastes than what you are used to eating.

A new study published in the January 2010 issue of Pediatrics now estimates that 8.6% of American children and adolescents have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

This study is based on results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a collaboration between the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Center for Health Statistics.  The survey, which included 3,042 participants from 8 to 15 years of age, also found that boys are more than twice as likely as girls to have ADHD...read more.

We love spring and everything about it! The birds singing early in the morning, the grass turning green, the thunderstorms and, most of all, the beautiful flowers that peek through signaling that spring is here!

The Germantown Junior Women's Club used to  plant flowers the first weekend in June in beds throughout the village. Unfortunately, the club is no longer existent due to lack of membership and that has left our Village flower beds feeling a little neglected.

We are now asking you for a little elbow grease to help us beautify Germantown.  On May 18th, I will go to the Germantown Tourism Meeting and request money from the village to plant flowers as well as lay new mulch in the beds along Mequon Road. There are 10 large beds that need flowers planted in them and just as many, if not more, beds that need weeds pulled and mulch put down.

What do we need?  We need help to plant flowers, pull weeds and put down mulch in the flower beds on Mequon Road. If you are interested in lending your greenthumb (or just a helping hand), please email me.

Hopefully we will get the money requested on the 18th of May to purchase flowers and good mulch. If granted, we will have flowers ready to plant and the mulch to be put down the morning of June 5. We will meet at Village Hall and work will begin at 8a.m. If you have a rake or other gardening tools, please bring them with you.

Please RSVP by June 1st so we may plan ahead on the number of volunteers.  If you forget to RSVP, just show up anyway.  :)

Thank you for helping me make Germantown a more beautiful place to live!

Sincerely,
Dr Sara
