Over the past five weeks third grade students have been participating in a new workshop series entitled "Stand Up/Speak Up." Yanveh parent and Theater Teaching Artist, Rebecca Lopkin, created this new workshop series to address the issue of bullying in schools. The workshops will take place over 8 weeks and result in each section of 3rd grade creating an original play based on a story containing an incident of bullying. The plays will be presented to younger grades as a tool to teach the techniques the third graders have learned to combat bullying. Students will gain confidence and skill to "Stand Up/Speak Up" for the target of the bullying. Ms. Lopkin uses her theatrical training and knowledge of Image and Forum Theater to work with the students to act out/practice various bullying scenarios. Experiential and cooperative learning engages the whole child and allows them to own the knowledge. Students look forward to each session with Ms. Lopkin and are excited to present their plays in the coming weeks.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SITE COMPETITION
Congratulations to our three SITE scientists, Naomi Fogelman, Ayelet Fischer, and Alyssa Polonetsky who took part in an invention competition on May 18 at Montclair University. Naomi and Ayelet invented Magnetic Skates and Rink, and Alyssa invented Swiffer Socks. The students presented their inventions to judges in a truly competent manner as they competed against sixteen other 3rd and 4th grade students. We are all very proud of these young scientists and their wonderful accomplishments.
