With the holiday season in full force, now is the favored time of year for employees to take time off of work to enjoy their families. Are you prepared with perfusionist staffing coverage? Our research shows that hospitals will need vacation coverage or emergency staffing more now than any other time of the year.
Last summer, Trident Health Resources, Inc. conducted a national survey of hospital administrators and perfusionists concerning perfusionist locum tenens staffing trends. A few highlights are presented from the report.
- 55% of hospitals have used perfusionist locums staffing within the past year and over 15% are currently seeking perfusionists to fill temporary positions.
- The majority (51%) use internal resources to find temporary perfusionists . 29% rely on one singular perfusion management services or staffing company to fulfill their needs. The rest will seek staffing from 2 or 3 outside providers.
- All things considered, the quality of the perfusionists provided by staffing companies ranks #1 in most importance when choosing a company. Ranking #2 is prompt availability of staff for placement , followed by cost. Insurance coverage ranked #4 in importance.
- The number one reason hospitals report using locum tenens staffing is for vacation coverage (63%) followed by a need for emergency coverage (57%). Other reasons include medical leave coverage and continuing education (43% each).
- 41% of the survey takers were familiar with Trident Health Resources, Inc. Of those, the majority (74%) ranked Trident's services as equal to or better than the performance of other companies which provide locums staffing.
