Personal Productivity,
Electronic Gadgets
& Social Media Networking

by Ralph E. Jordan, CEO & President
Trident Health Resources, Inc.
Whether you sit at a desk or behind the pump in the O.R., chances are your daily life is becoming increasingly integrated with new technologies to enhance daily living and your job. Wall calendars are replaced by Outlook, Android or Iphone apps that provide pop-up reminders of scheduled meetings. Texting isn't just for your teen child - it's for sending quick notes between coworkers. Even if you're not the greatest typist, the QWERTY keyboard isn't so important any more thanks to voice recognition software. Just talk and it's typed. Minor editing required. Staying in touch with dozens of professional associates is simpler with online social media such as Facebook, Linkedin, and and a whole host of smaller online membership communities that connect you in your area of work (e.g., perfusioncommunity.com, and perflist at AmSect's website).

So much of what we do any more is driven by advances in technology which provide unique opportunities to get closer to information and people. I came across some interesting stats about hospitals' use of Social Media... Take a look at this (click pie chart to enlarge):

All this technology in the hospital....

Which brings me to a topic near and dear to me, Trident's VIVO RT, a real-time e-charting and monitoring system for hospital equipment.  In the past two issues of The Heartbeat, we advertised a call for hospitals interested in trials.  Thank you for your interest!  We still would like to hear from anyone who is curious.  Just click the link to refer to our ad in the July Issue and then email us at marketing@tridenthealth.com

Finally, thought I'd share some social networking/texting abbreviations.  Here's a little reference list for your next twitter post, blog entry, text message, etc.:

<s> smile
Lol - laughing out loud
Rofl - rolling on the floor laughing
<g> - grin
wb - welcome back
ty - thank you
yw - you're welcome
btw - by the way
btdt - been there, done that
brb - be right back
imho - in my humble opinion
cu or cya - see you
im - instant message
k - ok
And last but not least, the beloved "smiley" face:  :)  and wink:  ; )

Trident provides perfusion services across the nation and abroad, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hospitals that need locum tenens placement can count on Trident to respond on an emergent basis, and we hope to earn your business for long-term commitments as well.  We welcome the opportunity to speak with hospitals that are considering outsourcing.  Visit Trident's website for an overview of our services.  Or, if you'd like a confidential comparative analysis of your existing open heart program, click here to submit some basic information for our immediate attention.

As Trident enters its 23rd year of business under the same ownership, we have the expertise to guide hospitals in managing perfusion services in their open heart programs.  Call today!
