August 2011
Things have really heated up outside and the days seem to be flying off the calendar...It's already back to school time!

It's also been a busy time for us both here in the Gallery/Studio and personally.  Summer Market was a successful weekend and we've gotten in some great new things in the Studio.  Our artists have been busy this summer with some new artwork too.

We hope you are enjoying your summer and are spending lots of time making sweet memories with family and friends - and that you're finding creative ways to stay cool! Seems like time flies when school starts back, but there are still plenty of great warm days left to plan something fun and memorable.

We've got some plans in the works including a Civil War art exhibit, so read below and watch for some fun new announcements to come for the Fall here at the Gallery and in the Studio!

Come see us soon, we'd love to catch up on what's going on with you...

It's been a great Summer...

Don't ya think?

 The Red Door Gallery
proudly presents:
"Reflections Of An American Tragedy"
a collection of Civil War original oil paintings and limited edition giclees by award-winning artist, Marie Burchette Merritt
The exhibit will be on display here at the gallery August 30th - October 1st.
Marie's expressive paintings evoke a sense of timelessness and mystery.  Her sensitive handlings of the subjects portray a deep connection to them.  Marie says of these paintings, "Although a controversial and tumultuous time in our nation's history, those hardships and strife shaped much of who we are today:  people of faith, character and strength.  I seek to tell those stories with understanding and honor."

Featured Artwork for August:

Lois Armstrong's

Scrimshaw Purse

  Lois-Scrim Purse

Lois is one of our most popular artists here in the Gallery.  Her wildlife work has become quite collectible with several of you.  For those of you unfamiliar with her work, she is a very gifted artist in many areas.  Her watercolors and oil paintings are always stunning and life-like.  Her wildlife painted on the pressed leaves and bark are incredibly beautiful and so realistic.
Her Scrimshaw work is like no other.  Seeing the detail and care she puts in to each piece through the etching process is simply awe inspiring.  This purse is so fun and unique! Some of her Scrimshaw pieces have been painted and the jewelry pieces have each been intricately wire-wrapped to make them a stunning, wearable work of art!

With school starting back we thought it only fitting to ask you to

Take A Brief Little Test...

Everyone needs to take a few moments to check their artwork.  We want those special pieces hanging on your wall to be protected so you can enjoy them for a long time to come!

Check your artwork/photographs -  Do they looked faded, washed out or dull?  If so, chances are they are under a glass that is not UV protectant.

Check your matting - Do they look faded, or do they simply need a new fresh color?  And, check the beveled edge around the artwork.  Is it crisp in color?  Or does the bevel appear to be off-white to brownish in color?  If so, more than likely you do not have acid-free matting.

Check the back - First of all, is your dust jacket (protective paper covering) ripped, torn or possibly non-existent? Run your fingers across the back and try to feel under the dust jacket.  Do you feel ripples?  If so, it's likely your framing package contains corrugated board (cardboard) which can do significant damage!

There have been so many upgrades to glass and matting in recent years and we have learned so much about the damages which can be caused by materials that contain acid.  If your artwork has been framed for more than a few years...there's a good chance it contains some of these non-preservation components.

Call or stop in...we can help before too much damage is done!
