Important Message from the Chair
Dear MCH Council Members,
It is with regret that I inform you that I am not eligible to continue to serve the MCH Council as the Chair as I am retiring from state service in December 2010. I will join the Council as an Associate Member and will continue to serve in the capacity as a member on the steering committee and to work on special projects.
As a Council, we are fortunate to have a very capable chair-elect, Patricia Daniluk, to transition to chair, and we also have a strong and dynamic MCH Council steering committee. This is an exciting time for maternal and child health nutrition and our Council will be at the forefront of many initiatives!
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the Chair.

MCH Nutrition Council Liaisons
| | |
The Council held a conference call on October 13 to discuss the state MCH Nutrition Liaison and what this position would entail. The group discussed the origins and purpose of the liaison position. Participants shared their reasons for being interested in the Council and offered ideas for discussion topics. We also discussed the draft Nutrition in MCH paper and how we can use the document to initiate discussion with relevant staff about nutrition in MCH programs. Participants also agreed it is important to gather information about what work is being accomplished to support public health nutrition within current state level maternal and child health activities.

MCHB 75th Anniversary Celebration
| | |
The MCHB 75th Anniversary Celebration was held on October 20 and over 1,200 people participated. The event commemorated the 75th anniversary and legacy of Title V of the Social Security Act. The celebration featured panel presentations on critical public health topics, a look into the future of maternal child health, and a call to action. Rethinking MCH: The Life Course Model as an Organizing Framework was unveiled. MCHB commissioned this concept paper to provide a mutual understanding about MCH life course from which the broad MCH community can begin to shape its public health approaches for the 21st century. The paper clarifies and synthesizes the best thinking on MCH life course and outlines how the theory might be used to frame MCHB's upcoming strategic planning process.
