Experienced Estimator Saves Time and Money
Brad Perry, the senior
estimator for The Roofing
Company, plays a crucial
role in saving contractors and
clients money, time and hassle.
With more than 25 years of
experience in the construction
industry - a majority of that
time spent doing the work of
an estimator - he brings priceless value to the
work of The Roofing Company.
"I'm very familiar with the assemblies that
are used and the different ways of doing things,"
he says. "If there are different ways of saving
money, or if there are things that can be done to
improve quality and add value, I bring those to
the table."
The goal, he says, is to balance budgetary
concerns with quality issues so that a contractor
gets the best product possible for the best value
- all within budget.
When it comes to materials being considered,
Perry pays close attention to brands
that could cause warranty problems or service
issues. He knows the products and companies
out there.
He knows to watch for design pitfalls that
could end up causing homeowners problems
further down the line.
"That's one thing we see quite a bit, when
there's an architect who comes from Florida
or Texas and they just don't understand the
extreme conditions with the ice and snow," he
says. "We feel there's a lot of merit helping
them out at the design stage."
The Roofing Company takes a proactive
approach toward its work. "We are out there and
deal with issues before they arise, rather than
react. This relates to products and design."
For instance, a design feature could void
the warranty of a particular product. Perry lets
people know of those problems ahead of time.
Or, if a roof design has issues with ice-damming,
he can make recommendations on
insulation, ventilation, heat cables or design
parameters to prevent the future problem.
He strives to provide value, quality and price
in his work.
And with the large, experienced work crews
employed by The Roofing Company, he knows
that timely service won't be an issue. They can
address time lines and requests quickly and
efficiently.

Installing Heat Cable Saves Money & Avoids Hassle

Installing heat cable, on the roof of a
mountain home, can literally save a
homeowner thousands of dollars.
Heat cable, usually installed on a roof
over the eaves and in gutters and down
spouts, allows for water to drain through
ice dams that frequently form on mountain homes.
These ice dams, which usually form
over eaves, are formed because there is little heat in
those areas, can trap water from melting
snow that accumulates higher up on
the roof. Once trapped, that water can
accumulate and infiltrate through roofs
into a home, causing major damage to the
interior.
How does heat cable work?
Heat Cable creates enough heat where it's placed
to form channels that allow water to pass.
It's not intended to melt all the snow or ice
on a roof where it's located. Its purpose
is to allow water to pass through ice and
snow buildup.
Heat cable on a roof has a distinctive
footprint and frequently can be seen as a
series of "V" shapes over a home's eaves.
If there are gutters and down spouts, the
heat cable also passes through them, allowing
water to drain there as well.
At The Roofing Company,
trained professionals have many years of
experience with self-regulating,
industrial-grade heat cable.
Since a power source is needed for heat
cable, The Roofing Company can recommend
the correct configuration and power
source for the cables.
"It's best to have a profession design
your heat cable system for you," says
Michael Kimbrough, head of Estimating
for the Repair Division at the Roofing
Company.
A Roofing Company-installed Heat
Cable System, combined with its Winter
Maintenance Program, can help assure homeowners the maximum roof protection
possible against Grand County's severe
winter weather.

The Roofing Company's winter snow removal and
maintenance program gives homeowners peace of
mind.
With twice-a-month inspections of snow- and ice-covered
roofs, backed up by a professional and experienced
snow removal and maintenance program, participating
homeowners can rest assured that their homes will
survive Grand County's snowy winters without incurring
damage from snow-covered or ice-packed roofs.
"Most of our customers in this program are second
home owners who are not here all the time to keep an eye
on their roofs," says Mike Kimbrough, who completes
sales and estimates for the Roofing Company's Repair
Division. Kimbrough, with 13 years of experience in
roof repair and snow removal, completes the inspections
himself.
"You have a professional doing the inspections and we
have a professional service of experienced snow and ice
removal crews removing the snow," he says.
He takes photos and then sends the photos to the
homeowners by e-mail. Included is an estimate of what,
if any, work needs to be done along with associated cost.
No removal takes place until the homeowners approve
the work.
Participants in the winter maintenance program have
priority over other, one-time call customers. But all will
receive the top-notch and fast service for which The
Roofing Company is known.

Why Use Spray Foam Insulation

Polyurethane spray foam insulation is
an investment in our environmental future.
It is a green building technique that will pay
off not only in savings on energy bills, but in
comfort as well, and will offer a clean conscience
for reducing global energy consumption
to boot!
Rocky Mountain Spray Foam and Waterproofing
is known for its attention to detail,
customer service and delivery of a top quality
finished product. The Roofing Company has
incorporated Rocky Mountain Spray Foam
and Waterproofing as a well suited addition to
its family, and embraces the new division for
the same stellar qualities as are practiced by
The Roofing Company.
Spray foam insulation is the optimum
insulation on the market today. Spray foam
insulation expands one hundred times from
its liquid form to fill every crevice in its path,
thus completely sealing a structure. It is
delivered as a two-component system, with
the final product being manufactured on the
construction site itself. (The fuel required
to deliver truckloads of bulkier insulation is
thus eliminated from the process.) Semi rigid
open cell water based foam, has an approximate
R value of four per inch, and eliminates
air flow within the envelope of the structure.
It also eliminates convection within wall assemblies
by preventing the occurrence of the
convection loop created when there is a large
differential between the outside temperature
and the indoor temperature. This characteristic
of foam makes it the ideal insulation for
the extreme weather conditions experienced
in Colorado, particularly in the mountains
where the Delta T from exterior to interior
can be great.
In the same manner as water, spray foam
seeks the path of least resistance, making it
possible to insulate areas that are impossible
to insulate with any other insulation available
on the market today. Along with its other
marvelous qualities, open cell foam offers
wonderful sound absorption qualities.
Spray foam insulation completely stops
air infiltration, does not support mold growth,
eliminates the introduction of dust particles
produced by other forms of insulation and
prevents allergens from entering the building
as well. Air leakage in a home can account
for up to 50% of the power bill, so eliminating
the air leakage will immediately reduce
an existing home's energy consumption, and
will give a new home the same advantage
from the onset of the insulation phase of the
project. By reducing the energy required to
heat or cool a home, the carbon footprint of
that individual building is reduced, which
lowers the demand for energy, lowering our
demand on global non-renewable energy
resources.
Spray foam may be more costly to install,
but the return on the investment will be
achieved in 3-4 years. Also, there are many
expensive items that go into the finish of the
home (such as a fancy faucet, tile, range etc.)
that will in all likelihood be changed over
the life of the home. As a component of the
structural frame and envelope of the structure,
it is highly unlikely that the insulation
will ever be upgraded. (Unless, of course,
in the event of a major remodel.) The time
to invest in the insulation package is in the
initial phase of construction. Also, there are
construction loans available that have been
developed to assist consumers wanting to
build energy efficient homes, and when the
lower interest rates and projected savings on
energy bills, it is no more cost effective to
use a less expensive/less effective form of
insulation. So foam is a win win situation for
all involved!
Rocky Mountain Spray Foam Insulation
and Waterproofing offers a closed cell foam
product as well as an open cell foam product,
and can provide caulking and sealing packages
as well. The best finished product is one
that has completely eliminated all air infiltration
from the structure. Closed cell foam
has characteristics that make it applicable
for different applications from the open cell
foam, including the fact that open cell foam
cannot be used below grade, while closed cell
foam can, making closed cell foam a viable
option for crawl space and basement projects.
Remember-insulate tight and ventilate right,
for a happy healthy home!
We also recommend the installation of
an HRV or ERV for proper ventilation of
the building in conjunction with a complete
insulation package. This contributes to the
comfort level in the home as well as reducing
energy consumption by recovering energy
from the conditioned air within the interior
space of the home.
