Old City Market
Downtown Flashback

The old City Market in 1905, Pitt Street at McDougall Avenue. The market was humming with activity when this photo was taken, apparently attracting the attention of bystanders. North America's first farmer's markets imitated ones from our European ancestors; farmers rode into town on horse-drawn carriages to sell their cash crops to the city folk. The city market was located on this site in one form or another from at least 1877, until it made way for Casino Windsor in 1996.
