Welcome, new hires!

A true indicator of a well-managed and successful organization is the ability to thrive during an economic downturn.  UHY is that type of firm.

Between the last quarter of 2011 and first quarter of 2012, the Michigan offices of UHY LLP and UHY Advisors MI, Inc. added 45 new professionals-the largest staff edition in more than 10 years.  This is remarkable considering the majority of the 20 largest accounting firms in metro Detroit reduced their staff levels from the previous year.  Additionally, UHY did not lay off a single employee from 2007-2011; a timeframe in which the economic landscape in Michigan was the bleakest of all 50 states and the state unemployment rate was significantly higher than the national average.

And its growth is far from over.  UHY is always scouting seasoned financial professionals who seek to take charge of their careers.  Please join us in welcoming our new hires!

Congratulations, tenured employees!

In 2011 UHY proudly recognized 41 tenured employees during quarterly breakfast meetings throughout the year.  Awards honor employees who reach milestones of employment from five years on in five year increments.

In fact, UHY had nine employees reach the 20-year or more mark in 2011.  They are:

Timothy J. Caughlin

Tim started in March 1971 and has been actively involved in the firm's growth and overall development.  He is currently a Partner with UHY LLP, a leading certified public accounting firm.  Tim is also Managing Director of UHY Advisors MI, Inc.  He is a member of the Independence and Ethics Committee, in charge of internal inspection of the Attest Practice and is a member of the Attest Committee for UHY LLP.  Tim received a BBA in Business Administration from the University of Michigan.  He is a licensed CPA in the State of Michigan.  As a leader of the firm's Audit and Assurance Department, Tim has extensive experience working with closely-held and privately-owned businesses in the manufacturing, real estate, construction and service industries.  He works closely with business owners for the protection and disbursement of their wealth, providing tax planning, business forecasts and projections, and business valuations.  Tim's Attest experience includes audits of public company filers and privately-held businesses.  He sits on the Board for a number of professional and civic organizations.

Mark Kaminski

Mark started in October 1981 as a Staff Accountant and is now a Principal of UHY Advisors MI, Inc.  He is a member of the firm's Tax Department and specializes in providing a wide range of financial, tax and business consulting services to companies in a variety of industries including manufacturing, commercial construction and food service industries.  Mark has worked exclusively with privately-held businesses for more than 25 years.  He is a licensed CPA in the State of Michigan and received a BBA in Accounting from Walsh College. Mark's professional experience also includes practicing before the IRS, managing tax audits and penalty abatement requests.

Anthony Antoun

Tony started in October 1985 as a Staff Accountant and is now a Principal of UHY Advisors MI, Inc.  He is a member of the firm's Tax Department and manages the Business Valuation Services Group.  Tony is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and Accredited in Business Valuations (ABV), along with being a licensed CPA in the State of Michigan since 1986.  Tony has accumulated extensive experience in accounting, taxation, business valuation and litigious engagements.  He also participates in high-profile forensic investigations involving large private and public companies.  Tony received a BBA in Accounting from Northwood University.

James J. Bauters

Jim started in November 1986 as a Manager and is now a Managing Director of UHY Advisors MI, Inc. where he leads the firm's Consulting Department.  He is also a a Partner with UHY LLP, a leading certified public accounting firm.  Jim is a member of the firm's Audit and Assurance Department and manages the National Quality and Process Improvement Consulting Practice.  He is a licensed CPA in States of Michigan, Ohio and Illinois, and is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).  Jim received a BS in Finance and Accounting from the University of Dayton and a MBA in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.  He has extensive experience in serving the manufacturing industry and is a key member of the National Manufacturing Industry Practice.

F. Scott Miller

Scott started January 1987 and is now a Partner with UHY LLP and a Managing Director of UHY Advisors MI, Inc.  He is a leading member of the firm's Audit and Assurance Department and is a leader of the firm's National Energy Group.  Scott is a licensed CPA in the States of Michigan, Georgia and Illinois and received his BBA in Accounting from Northwood University.  He works with middle market companies providing a wide range of financial, tax, transaction and business consulting services to manufacturing, energy and distribution related companies.  Scott is a Board Member of the Michigan Petroleum Association/Michigan Association of Convenience Stores (MPA/MACS).  He works with publically-traded companies and has experience with various SEC filings.

Thomas J. Callan

Tom started January 1992 as a Staff Accountant and is now the office Managing Director of UHY Advisors MI, Inc. in Farmington Hills.  He is also a Partner of UHY LLP, a leading certified public accounting firm.  Tom is a member of the Executive Committee and is a licensed CPA in the States of Michigan and Georgia.  He is a leader of the firm's National Construction Industry Practice and is responsible for developing national practices and procedures to improve the delivery of professional services to construction companies.  He provides guidance on tax compliance issues, state and local tax planning, a wide variety of consulting services, business forecasts and projections, business valuations and litigation support.  Tom received his BBA in Accounting and Business Administration from Walsh College.

Steven P. McCarty

Steve started in January 1992 as a Staff Accountant and is now a Managing Director of UHY Advisors MI, Inc.  He is also a Partner with UHY LLP, a leading certified public accounting firm.  Steve manages a group of professionals in the Audit & Assurance Department and is the leader of the firm's National Transaction Services Group.  He consulted on numerous business transactions providing buy and sell side advisory, due diligence services, financial analysis, tax strategies, negotiations, valuations and financing.  Steve is a certified British Standards Institute ISO/QS Auditor and a licensed CPA in the States of Michigan and Florida.  He is also a licensed Certified Management Accountant (CMA).  Steve received his BBA in Accounting and Business Administration from Walsh College.  He sits on the Board as a professional advisory director for Employer Services Assurance Corporation (ESAC) and is a Board Member of NAPEO Midwest Leadership Council and Finance Committee.  Steve is also past president of the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA).

Daniell R. Patterson

Dan started in January 1991 as a Staff Accountant and is now a Principal of UHY Advisors MI, Inc.  He is a co-leader of the firm's National Auto Dealership Industry Practice and an active member of Driving Force Auto Dealership Consulting Group, LLC.  Dan is a licensed CPA in the States of Michigan, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma.  He received his BBA in Business Administration from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  Dan is a member of the firm's Audit & Assurance Department and has extensive experience in providing professional attest, tax, and business consulting services to privately held businesses.  He specializes in working with automotive dealerships, manufacturing and not-for-profits.

Heather A. Raschke

Heather started in July 1991 and is now a Principal of UHY Advisors MI, Inc.  She graduated with a BA in Accounting from Eastern Michigan University, MSF in Finance from Walsh College and is a licensed CPA in the State of Michigan.  Heather serves as the national leader of the firm's Nonprofit Industry Practice.  She specializes in servicing the nonprofit and health care sectors where she assists clients in maximizing profits, minimizing taxes, and maintaining compliance with regulations and contracts.  Heather is an active member of the firm's Audit and Assurance Department, team leader of internal inspection and has extensive experience with Single Audit Reporting.
