and receptivity to Truth and Love poured forth for mankind saying, "You are each the light, and the world is feeling the effects of the good works - of Love, wisdom, compassion, of the healing touch of the Christ."
She further stated: "In Science and Health we have the promise that 'the waters will be pacified, and Christ will command the wave.' (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures p. 570:24) How? - Christ commands the wave with the ideal truth, attributing all power to God
(see S&H 473:8). And as 'the true idea voicing good,'
(S&H p. 332:9). Christ is the authority - the comfort and reassurance we are looking for when it appears that there is a flood or huge waves to ride. Stay with Christ every step
of the way."
Caroleen then shared information on how and why to advertise as a Christian Science nurse:
Application to advertise in The Christian Science Journal.
The newest application and current information can be found online at http://members.christianscience.com/healing/christian-science-nurse/advertising/
Why advertise in the Christian Science Journal?
Mrs. Eddy provided for this opportunity in the Manual By-law for Christian Science nurses; it is part of fulfilling the revelation of Christian Science. In The First Church of Christ, Scientist and Miscellany Mrs. Eddy writes on page 230: "Of this I am sure, that each Rule and By-law in thisManual will increase the spirituality of him who obeys it, invigorate his capacity to heal the sick, to comfort such as mourn, and to awaken the sinner." She also writes that the By-laws "sprang from necessity, the logic of events, - from the immediate demand for them as a help that must be supplied to maintain the dignity and defense of our Cause;" (Miscellaneous Writings 148:14.)
Representing oneself as a Christian Science nurse and putting one's card in the Journal is part of maintaining the dignity and defense of our Cause.
Caroleen invited attendees to pray about the deeper meaning of fulfilling this aspect of the By-law; it is more than "just advertising". The Journal "...is designed to put on record the divine Science of Truth." (Miscellany 353:10) Advertising in the Journal supports this purpose.
Community.christianscience.com
Caroleen invited attendees to register for and participate in the online community for Christian Science nurses found at: https://community.christianscience.com. On the left near the top of the page, it says register - click on it. Once registered then send your username to csnursing@csps.com. Then we complete the process which gives you access to the private Christian Science nursing community. If you have any questions contact scholetc@csps.com and she will walk you through it.
Prayerful support for Christian Science nursing.
How can Christian Science nurses support the fulfillment of the By-Law?
- READ THE EDITORIAL FROM THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MARCH 2010 TITLED, "Purpose and Vision for Church",
- Write articles about Christian Science nursing for the periodicals. (See Oct 1896 Journal Vol XIV NO 7 p 315 by Mrs. Eddy) "Me thinks were they to contemplate the universal charge wherewith divine Love has entrusted us, in behalf of a suffering race, they would contribute oftener to the pages of this swift vehicle of Scientific thought - for it reaches a vast number of earnest readers and seekers after Truth."
- Continue looking directly to the Pastor - the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and the Church Manual for answers; listen for "Christ's commands".
Facility visits 2010.
Former Manager of Christian Science Nursing Activities, Linda Kohler, visited all Christian Science nursing facilities in the world during 2010. She shared some observations and lessons learned.
- Most facilities had enough Christian Science nurses. Many who had formerly used contract or fly-in staff regularly relied on them much less if at all.
- Many facilities reporting they are seeing quicker healing. (Resulting in lower occupancy due to shorter stays).
- We could do a better job of communicating with and supporting sister facilities and fellow Christian Science nurses. Linda encouraged attendees to reach out to other Christian Science nurses in their areas in a spirit of cooperation and mutual support.
- Christian Science nursing facilities have been praying about unity, and meeting together to form one unified accreditation organization.
Pioneering Christian Science nursing in new parts of the world.
During the past year, Christian Scientists have conducted mentoring, classes and workshops in France, Brazil, Argentina, and Spain. This is pioneering work. It takes courage and deep prayer.
Transitions at The Mother Church
Linda Kohler was appointed a Trustee of the Christian Science Publishing Society as of August 1, 2011. She explained how grateful she was that Caroleen was ready and willing to quickly step into the position she vacated as Manager of Christian Science Nursing Activities. Linda will continue to work closely with Caroleen and be available to support and consult.
Linda expressed gratitude for the opportunity over the past six years to meet and get to know so many Christian Science nurses around the world.
Caroleen is the Manager of Christian Science Nursing Activities, The Mother Church, and Linda Kohler is a Trustee of The Christian Science Publishing Society in Boston, Massachusetts.
