Dear Readers,
We are grateful for articles, ideas, and experiences submitted to Vision Now!.  Please accept them as a "sharing". None are meant to set forth rules, formulas or authority. They are the result of each author's prayerful consideration of the subject.
Thank you,

Greetings!
Spring Blossoms

Trees blossoming, temperatures moderating, later sunsets, and Annual Meeting notices - these are all signs of spring here in the Northeast - and Spring is synonymous with renewal.

This newsletter focuses on the "renewed" thought that is being expressed in the world of Christian Science nursing. We recently put out the request for reports on new ideas and/or changes being put into practice in facilities and field work. The responses, while not overwhelming in number, are chock full of inspiration.

What is happening in your experience that would be innovative and fresh for others to read about? We would love to hear from you and share with our subscribers any novel ideas you are demonstrating as a Christian Science nurse, facility, or service.

We hope you enjoy reading about Beacon Haven - the "re-inspiration" of what was formerly Clifton House. Millie Khemakem's piece gives new thought to the purpose of Christian Science nursing; Sharon Rooker-Brade fills us in on what it is like serving "down under";  and Sunland Home shares its easy-going approach to patient care and staff morale - all providing new insights for us to consider in our own Christian Science nursing practices.

Before you leave, be sure to check out CedarS Camps ad. They are delivering on a promise to fund, as needed, all children of Christian Science nurses!

Spring has sprung...so happy reading!

Life at Sunland
by Amy Edwards, Director of Christian Science Nursing (DOCSN)

Sunland HomeLocated in the beach community of Encinitas, California, we see beauty everywhere. It compels us to examine the ideas of Soul, and how we may bring that beauty inside to our patients here at Sunland.

We're blessed with many talented Christian Science nurses who are artists of every sort: musicians, designers, painters, and even food stylists. And we search for ways to share those talents with our patients. For instance, we've come to see food service as a unique landscape for beauty. Each meal tray is designed to showcase the food, with a locally-grown flower or even a tiny plant in a teacup. One of our Christian Science nurses designs our menus using local produce...Read More

Life at Beacon Haven
by Sharon Hansen, Current Board President

Beacon HavenWhy, with its long history in the Midwest, did Clifton House close its doors in 2002? In addition to immediate cash flow problems, the Board wanted to renovate the building to better facilitate Christian Science nursing. The staff designed "the perfect nursing room" and this design was used in our new six-bed facility. After determining that repairs and renovations would cost more than the building was worth, and finding no other building to remodel, we thought of new construction. We put out a call for land, and a local Christian Science church offered us two acres of lakeshore property for a new facility.

We sold the old facility and a committee was formed to plan the new building. Space was found in an industrial park for our "temporary home." A benefit of this was the indoor loading dock...Read More

Life Down Under
By Sharon Rooker-Brade

Returning to Australia after being in the United States since 1980 has been a big change for me. But I am so grateful for all the practical nursing skills andSharon Rooker-Blade experience I gained during that time. A lot of that knowledge was taught to me by dedicated Christian Science nurses reading this newsletter. A heartfelt thanks to you all.

Most recently, I was serving full-time as the Director of Christian Science Nursing at Peace Haven, a Christian Science nursing facility near St. Louis, Missouri  before I returned to Australia. When I first arrived here I was working only one day a week for a few hours. My demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science became more important to me and I have found more opportunities to pray...Read More
