Greetings!

This past September the Ozark Hills were "alive with the sound of music" - and happy voices, and active, uplifted thoughts, and... well, you get the idea!

It was wonderful to see so many old friends, and make new acquaintances at the 2009 ICSNC. While we didn't see some of you there, you were no less thought of, and now we would like to bring a little of the Conference to you via Vision Now!

In this issue, Linda Kohler invites everyone to attend a Webinar entitled, "A New Century of Christian Science Nursing," Leslie Connery shares current Committee On Publication activities and Bonnie Castroman put into writing an update from The Commission. Individuals that attended share their thoughts about the Conference and letters of fruitage. Another issue, coming in February, contains synopses of the workshops presented and more letters of fruitage and thoughts about the Conference from attendees.

While reading these issues, please take a moment to consider what Dwelling in the Light means to you and then take a look at what the Conference attendees said as we brought the meetings to a close.

So, welcome to the 2009 ICSNC Review Issue Part I!

Hi Katherine,
...I just finished reading the last CSNCN newsletter. It's gorgeous & I love the ease of reading it online. Wonderful, meaty, inspiring and thought-provoking articles! You all really made the right decision to change to a totally online version.
Much love,
Jobea

Christian Science Nursing Communication Network 2009 Board Report

2009 CSNCN Board

Left to Right: Bonnie Mitchinson, Mary Hollister, Esther Joscelyn, Kimberly Thorndike, Kerry Reed, Pat Cameron, and Katherine Pennington

Your CSNCN Board gave the following brief report at the Conference:
We would like to thank Betty Miller and Pam Roberts, again, for all their work for CSNCN. Soon after their retirement, we decided to expand our Board to seven people. Bonnie Mitchinson joined the Board in August of 2008, Kimberly Thorndike and Kerry Reed in March of this year, and Pat Cameron in April.

During our January 2009 Board meeting in San Diego, we decided to postpone the...Read More

What "Dwelling in the Light" means to me (from Conference Attendees)
"I've realized that I am the light, and by letting my light shine, I am also helping others . . . The more I reflect that Christ-light in my own life - and not waiting for other's light to guide me, the more I can bless and be of true service to my fellow man."
Individual 2009 ICSNC Fruitage Reports

The grappling and the gleaning
From the very first invitation to come to a Christian Science nursing conference, we have our work cut out for us. The prayer, to know if this is the right time for us - is this a real need to support our own Christian Science nursing practice or are we just looking for an informative holiday? Would we glean more from simply a weekend of solid commitment...Read More

What "Dwelling in the Light" means to me (from Conference Attendees)
"Our individual light is important, but as we come together as one, the light just fills every space and brings healing. This Conference did that."
A New Century of Christian Science Nursing
With Linda Kohler, Manager, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Christian Science Nursing Activities

Linda's report focused on five areas she said were "ripe for progress" in the new century:Linda Kohler
  • New Frontiers - Christian Science nursing in emerging fields.
  • What's my role here? - Understanding our Scope of Practice.
  • A Public Practice - What does advertising really mean?
  • The Goliath of the New Century - Are we shooting at the right target?
  • Can God Furnish a Table in the Wilderness? - Stepping up to the "supply" challenge.

Her report also included fruitage from the Centennial activities...Read More

What "Dwelling in the Light" means to me (from Conference Attendees)
"Dwelling in the light, we can never be separated from it, because we are its manifestation. 'The Mind that made [light], maintains [it]' and everyone in it, without exception."
Christian Science Committees on Publication: Leavening Thought Regarding Christian Science Nursing
With Leslie Connery, a Legislative Attorney for the Christian Science Committees on Publication

Leslie's talk focused upon how Committees on Publication throughout the world are fulfilling their Manual-based duty to "correct in a Christian manner CC Leslie Connery 100impositions on the public in regard to Christian Science." (Church Manual by Mary Baker Eddy, Art. XXXIII, § 2). The work of the Committees on Publication is first and foremost about benefiting mankind, and it is based on the healing practice. It is about uplifting (leavening) public thought, and this includes helping the public to gain a higher and more correct sense of Christian Science nursing.

Leslie began her presentation by providing some basic information about advance... Read More

"Lifting Up a Standard"
by Bonnie Castroman, Executive Director, The Commission for Accreditation of Christian Science Nursing Organizations, Inc.

I'd like to share with you a little about how The Commission is "Lifting up a Bonnie CastromanStandard" (Isa. 62:10). This standard is one you are very familiar with, because, essentially, the one standard that is being lifted up is the Church Manual By-law for the Christian Science nurse, (Church Manual by Mary Baker Eddy, Art. VIII, § 31). Describing what The Commission does starts with this By-law. The focus of all of our work is to support Christian Science nursing in the organizational setting - in facilities and Visiting Christian Science Nurse services.

One important area of our work is to help organizations comply with current regulatory...Read More
