Anger: Handling a Powerful Emotion in a Helthy Way

The prophet Isaiah thundered this message to ancient Israel: "Your iniquities have separated you from your God."  Sin always separates us from God.  The same principle is true in human relationships.

The road back to God is repentance on our part and forgiveness on God's part.  The same pattern is true in human relationships.

When we sin against someone, we fracture the relationship.  The road to healing is confession and repentance on our part, in the hope that the offended party will extend forgiveness.

God always forgives His people.  People sometimes forgive.  Jesus instructed his disciples to follow the example of God.  We are to freely forgive when someone sincerely apologizes.

The Heart of the Matter

The Marriage Miracle

There is no heartache, betrayal, hurt, or painful memory that two softened hearts cannot overcome.  Once two people soften their hearts toward each other, it becomes only a matter of when, not if, they will reconcile.

A softened heart can even stop the dead-end thinking that endlessly loops, I married the wrong person.  I married the wrong person.  I have to get out.  I have to get out.

Where do we begin the journey toward a softened and accepting heart?  It starts by turning to the Architect, Creator, and Designer of the human heart - Jesus Christ.

What Did Jesus Say About Marriage?

While Jesus discusses marriage in various places throughout the Gospels, He saves His longest and most important teaching on this topic for Matthew 19:1-12. In this remarkable exchange between Jesus and the religious leaders of His day, He reveals the underlying reason for every problem and difficulty that threatens a marriage.

At the same time, He offers the prescription for healing every dilemma and quandary that can afflict a marriage relationship. While there is much more to say on this, we can begin with this simple observation:

Jesus teaches that the heart of all marriage problems and their solutions resides in the heart.
