Humility: A Trait of Love
by Dr. Gary Chapman

Love As a Way of Life

HUMILITY:

a peacefulness of heart that allows you to stand aside in order to affirm the value of someone else.

Humility is the mark of a true Christian.  Jesus humbled himself when he became a man.   Humility is stepping down so someone else can step up.

It can be exhibited in small ways such as allowing someone else to go before you in the check-out line.  Or larger ways such as donating a kidney so your brother can live.

We are not trained in humility.  By nature we are looking out for "number one."  Humility comes from the realization that "it is more blessed to give than to receive."

The Scriptures say that God "resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."  Humility is one of the traits of love.  When love becomes a way of life, humility will flow naturally.

What would your relationships be like if you....

- Were willing to forgo your own "rights" when doing so would benefit others?

- Would seek a place of service rather than a seat of authority?

- Used your possessions, abilities, and status in life to help others succeed?

- Saw any talent, time, or position you possessed as a gift?

- Did not harbor anger when others put themselves first?

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:1-3
