Making the Most of Separation
by Dr. Gary Chapman

Hope for the Separated

The marriage is not over when your spouse walks out the door!

Marital separation is all too common, but separation does not necessarily lead to divorce.  Separation means that the marriage is sick, and sick people need a physician.

The pain of separation can lead you to a new discovery of the Great Physician.

Many people have told me through the years, "While the separation was the worst thing that ever happened to me, through it, I rediscovered my relationship with God."

Augustine said, "Man was made by God and does not find rest until he finds God."  If we look to a marriage partner to give us a sense of worth and to bring happiness, we are looking in the wrong direction.

Many have expected a spouse to provide that which only God can give.  Peace of mind, inner security, a confidence in the outcome of life, and a sense of joy about living do not come from marriage, but from an intimate relationship with God.

If you or a friend are experiencing the pain of marital separation, why not use it as a time to develop the spiritual dimension of your life?
