Western Fairs Association is kicking-off our annual membership drive with a bang! For every new member you sign-up between now and September 15, you will automatically receive a $50 check from WFA. Refer enough members and your 2013 membership could be FREE! Make sure your name appears on the Referred By line of the print or online membership application.

Now is an excellent time to join WFA. Since we are midway through the year, new members will receive 18 months of membership for the price of 12.

Where to Find Applications

Have membership applications handy. Find applications:

  • On our website as a PDF
  • At WFA Mixers and Open Houses
  • At the WFA office. Call (916) 927-3100 or stop by when you're in Sacramento.
  • You can also have them join online and avoid the hassles of paperwork and mailing.

Spread the Word

  • Bring potential members to WFA Mixers and Open Houses.
  • Hand deliver information to potential members at fairs.

The Fine Print

This limited time referral program is available to all WFA members in good standing. Checks for referrals from fairs will be made out to the fair. Checks for referrals from businesses will be made out to the business.

Help us reach our goal of 50 new members in 50 days!

WFA in July

You might think by reading our Facebook posts that all WFA staffers do in July is visit fairs, eat fair food and hang out with our members. Although this is arguably the most enjoyable part of our job, we are quite the worker bees. Here are the highlights:
  • Meetings Manager Liz Waxstein and 30 of our members landed at the Calgary Stampede yesterday for the Feature Fair Tour.
  • We have successfully negotiated our hotel room rate for the WFA Convention, January 20-23, in Reno, Nevada down to $69!
  • The summer issue of the Fair Dealer magazine is going to print on Wednesday.
  • Service member membership renewal invoices and directory information requests will be mailed in mid-July.
  • The WFA Open House at the California State Fair is scheduled for July 19 from 5-7 p.m.
  • The WFA Trade Show is more than half sold and contracts will be sent out via email.
  • Continue to advocate for fair funding solutions.
  • Planning, planning and more planning.
California Fairs Promote Agritourism

The Division of Fairs and Expositions and the University of California Small Farm Program have teamed up to connect farmers with county and regional fairs to promote agritoursim and celebrate California specialty crops. Together they've organized workshops and tours for farmers and agricultural leaders at seven fairs throughout the state to be held during fairtime.

Each workshop will feature fair officials teaching farmers some of their methods for safely entertaining thousands of people, presentations by farmers currently involved with local fairs or local agritourism, interactive discussions on potential collaborations between specialty crop growers, agritourism operators and fairs, and guided tours of the fair facilities.
Click here for more information, including how to register and the workshop schedule.
