The Blue Ribbon Foundation, the nonprofit charitable arm of WFA, is proud to announce the recipients of its first scholarships. The inaugural funds for these scholarships were raised throughout 2011 and culminated with half the proceeds from the Blue Ribbon Foundation auctions held at WFA's annual Convention and Trade Show in January donated to the cause.
Recipients
Karlene Shippelhoute, daughter of Glenn County Fair Senior Maintenance Worker Doyle Shippelhoute, was awarded $2,500. Karlene is an accomplished student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA through high school, and has been a longtime member of 4-H and FFA. She will study anthropology.
Cora Williams, daughter of Dean and Liesel Williams of WFA service member Red & White Concessions, was also awarded $2,500. Cora is an outstanding student, maintaining a 4.3 GPA, is a talented athlete and has been involved in 4-H, church youth groups and the family business. She will enter college pre-med.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation scholarship program is intended to support the network of fairs and their families by offering scholarships to further motivate high-achievers in pursuit of their careers and life goals. The program is offered in partnership with the Friends of the California State Fair which processes the applications, and manages the selection and awarding of funds.
