Appointments Made to WFA Board

New appointments to the WFA board include two service members, making five service member representatives, the largest number of service members to ever serve on the WFA board.

At the November WFA board meeting, 2011 Service Member Chair Pat Kress was appointed as treasurer on the Executive Board, creating a vacancy on the Service Member Board. Ronn Brookens, Jackson Enterprises, slated to take the chair position resigned his seat moving Rick Graves, Medical & Safety Management, from the second vice-chair position to the chair position, leaving both the first and second vice-chair positions open. Before Brooken's resignation, there were two nominees for the second vice-chair position, Ernie Guderjahn, Theatre-16, Inc., and Ken McMeans, Ken McMeans Presents. With both seats open and two nominees, the WFA Board voted to appoint Guderjahn to the first vice-chair position and McMeans to the second vice-chair position. Look for all three of your Service Member Executive Board members running WFA Mixers at fairs in progress.
Feature Fair Tour, Save the Date

Western Fairs Association's Feature Fair Tour will head to Canada July 9-11 to celebrate the centennial Calgary Stampede. Meetings Manager Liz Waxstein is hard at work making plans for this must-attend event. Tour the Stampede and receive tickets for the Stampede's famous grandstand and rodeo shows as well as behind-the-scenes tours from Stampede staff.

Start searching airlines for deals and get your passport ready (this can take longer than six weeks)! Lodging and Stampede tickets are inclusive through WFA. Stay tuned for more information, including tour details and costs.

Blue Ribbon Rivals Now Casting

Get publicity for your California fair. A well-known Los Angeles-based production company and major cable network is seeking men and women 18 years-old and older for a new television series featuring blue ribbon fair competitors and their rivals. This new series is looking for all types of people with big personalities and a thirst for competing for blue ribbons. Have your blue ribbon competitors send an email to blueribboncasting@gmail.com with their name, age, profession and contact information, as well as the following:

  • How many blue ribbons they've won and for what categories, why they would be great on the show and what winning a blue ribbon means to them.
  • What their life is like as they prepare their product for competition.
  • Photos of their family.
  • Their biggest rivals.

For best consideration, they can post a video presentation no longer than three minutes to YouTube including all the above information. Mark it unlisted and send the link.
