Healthy and Safety Program for Fairs
Western Fairs Association in partnership with the Division of Fairs and Expositions and the California Fair Services Authority is in the process of creating a Health and Safety campaign that will be distributed to the 78 fairs in California. The campaign is an out-of-the-box program designed to help fairs protect and educate fair patrons.
A Health and Safety Kit will be sent to California fairs free of charge and will be an all inclusive, step-by-step program. Inside the kit, fairs will find signs and brochures to be posted throughout the fairgrounds, a boiler plate health and safety plan, a flash drive with electronic files so fairs can make more copies as needed, information on hand-washing stations and how to make sure they are ADA compliant, a copy of the Compendium, and a video on the importance of washing your hands after visiting animal areas. The kit will also include step-by-step instructions on where signs are designed to go on the grounds and how to make the boiler plate plan work for each individual fair.
This program is scheduled to be completed in mid-July and will also be available for non-California fairs upon request. For more information about the Health and Safety Kit, look for an article in the summer issue of the Fair Dealer.

Western Fairs Association in June
As the fair season begins heating up, WFA also kicks into high gear. Take a look at what we're up to in June. - Executive Director Stephen Chambers, in conjunction with the WFA legislative team, is still working with key legislators to find solutions for California fair funding. He's also providing numerous interviews with media throughout the state to keep this important topic at the forefront and is traveling to as many fairs as his schedule allows to touch base with members.
- Marketing Director Carrie Wright is back to work after her maternity leave. She is busy catching up on what she missed and is hard at work on developing a Convention marketing plan, a membership drive and booking Trade Show booths.
- Meetings Manager Liz Waxstein is working out the details for upcoming Service Member Mixers, WFA Open Houses and the Feature Fair Tour. She is also fielding questions about Showcase and collecting applications.
- Communications Manager Lori Hanley is writing, editing and compiling information for the summer issue of the Fair Dealer magazine, due out in July. She is also putting the finishing touches on the revised Service Member Update Form/Invoice that will be used to collect information for the next Date List and Membership Directory.
- Accounting Manager Tami Triggs is reviewing our database to make sure information is correct for the service member billing and is creating invoices for the July billing.
- Marketing Assistant Amy Wunder is working with California State Fair's exhibit crew to produce California's Golden Fairs, an exhibit celebrating the 200th anniversary of fairs.
- Administrative Assistant Wendy Sanchez is answering phone calls, processing mail and helping with the membership drive.
