The 88th Annual Convention and Trade Show Provides a Great Start to the 2011 Season

The WFA Convention and Trade Show started off strong on Sunday, January 16 with cutting-edge programming and a well-attended (and competitive!) bowling tournament at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. Success continued through Monday with keynote speaker Huell Howser, host of California Golden Fairs, and a sold out Trade Show. With a reception every night, entertainment showcasing and educational programming, the Convention and Trade Show was full of training opportunities, networking events and fun. It ended with the Industry Awards Dinner on Wednesday where attendees heard from the Hall of Fame winners as well as the Barham and Merrill award recipients.

This premier event would not be possible without our generous supporters. Review the list and support them when you can. If you are a member of WFA, be sure you check out the Convention materials posted in the Learning Center of the member-only Community. And, don't forget to follow up with the Trade Show exhibitors and Showcase acts.

A full report on the WFA Convention and Trade Show will be available in the spring issue of the Fair Dealer!

Membership Materials in the Mail

The Date List and Membership Directory is the most important tool for planning the 2011 fair season. Whether you are a service member looking to play a fair or a fair looking for an act, concessionaire, commercial exhibitor or supplier, you will find all you need in the Directory.

Need information on a service member quickly and don't have your trusty book on-hand? Visit our
Business Directory online and search by business name, business type or owner name.
Call for Committee Members

Do you have great ideas on what WFA should be working on? Do you want to have more of a say in the day-to-day operations of your Association? Join a WFA committee and make your voice heard. Share your thoughts, ideas and hard work by serving on one of the following committees:

  • Professional Development
  • Achievement Awards
  • Agriculture and Education
  • Showcase
  • Executive Development

If selected to serve on a committee, you will be notified by email shortly after the WFA spring Board Meeting in March. All interested members in good standing should contact Liz Waxstein at lizw@fairnset.org. All requests will be reviewed by WFA President Don Delahoyde.

What is WFA Doing in February?

Advocating: Executive Director Stephen Chambers and the WFA legislative team is hard at work combating the California Governor's proposed 100 percent elimination of fair funding. Stay apprised of the situation and read the latest news links on the California Fairs Alliance page of our website.

Florida Trip: Meeting Manager Liz Waxstein organized a trip to the NICA Food Show for members, including WFA President Don Delahoyde. They return from the sunny state on Thursday. View a complete report in the next issue of the Fair Dealer.

Publications: The Date List and Membership Directory is in the mail and Communications Manager Lori Hanley is hard at work on the spring issue of the Fair Dealer. Look for it in the mail in late March.

Planning for FAST: Save the dates for the Fair Administrative Staff Training March 28-30. Marketing Director Carrie Wright is busy planning a full educational program and Meetings Manager Liz Waxstein is pulling all those meeting details together.

Fair Member Dues: Accounting Manager Tami Triggs is currently working on billing fairs for membership dues. Remember, your support enables us to do what we do!
