Ollie's Offerings
After a four-week special series for adult education, our regular adult Sunday School classes resume for the rest of the school year. This is a great way to meet new friends, strengthen relationships within the church, challenge and grow your faith and learn more about how faith intersects with everyday life. At APC, Sunday School is for all ages! Grab a coffee, tea or hot chocolate and join in! We have several 9:45-10:45am options for adults:
"The Present Word" is a weekly discussion on a Bible passage that Tom Denham leads in the Alpha Building, classroom 2. Student booklets offer somebackground and questions on each week's passage. (The Alpha building is the mobile building closest to Fellowship Hall.)
The Crossroads Class is currently making plans on their topic, class leadership and style of learning for the Spring. Now is a great time to join in. This class is especially popular with adult learners who are retired. They meet in room 210 (upstairs).
The Young Adult Class is for ages 19-29 and is facilitated by Mary Anne Mahone. The group follows the lectionary passages which are also used in worship that same day. The class enjoys lots of real life conversation and meets in the Alpha Building's, classroom 4.
The Faith and Families Class will begin a new series produced by The Thoughtful Christian titled "The Seven Deadly Sins and Their Seven Corresponding Virtues." John Hicks is organizing the class which shares leadership and employs small group conversation. They meet in the Multipurpose Room (the upstairs gym).
An "Introduction to the Old Testament" Disciple Bible Study Class will be taught by David Dantzler. This eight-week, high commitment class meets from 8:45-10:45am in room 201. To participate, please contact the church office immediately so we can order materials. |

Lenten Devotionals
Lenten Devotional Booklets - A guide for daily devotions during the season of Lent will be available in the lobby beginning on Ash Wednesday - Renewed for Life based on the writings of Henri Nouwen. There will also be information in this same location for downloading other guides for those who would like to use their E-book readers. |
Ash Wednesday
Join us this Wednesday, February 22 at 6:30pm in the sanctuary for our Ash Wednesday service. This service will include the imposition of ashes and marks the beginning of the 40 day season of Lent. |
Inclement Weather
When we have inclement weather, please visit the APC website www.alpharettapres.com for any cancellation notices of church events. Ministry Fair
APC Ministry Fair - The APC Membership Committee is sponsoring a Ministry Fair on Sunday morning, February 26, in Fellowship Hall. Most of the various ministries and activity groups at APC will have tables set up between services where you can ask questions and find out more information about what each group does and how you might be able to get involved. If you've been wanting to get more involved but weren't quite sure what opportunities were available or if you're already involved in something and maybe looking for something new, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to find out what our church has to offer. For more information, contact John Bullock at 770-754-4427 or jobullock@bellsouth.net. |
Souper Bowl
Thank you to all whom contributed to the Souper Bowl for Caring Collection on Super Bowl Sunday. On Friday, February 17, our youth spent time at The Place of Forsyth serving in the food pantry and were able to present a check for $1349.40 to The Place of Forsyth. We are continually overwhelmed by the generosity of our congregation, THANK YOU! |
STARS News
On Wednesday, February 8 the STARS, APC staff and other members of the church, totalling about 25 people, enjoyed a wonderful spread of food at the potluck luncheon. Following the lunch, we were entertained by APC Choir members, Ferrell and Lois White. Ferrell, accompanied by Lois on piano, sang us down memory lane with many old favorites. Everyone enjoyed their entertaining visit to by-gone days! Following the lunch and entertainment, a short meeting was held to finalize plans that have been made for the remainder of the year. A signup sheet has been posted on the STARS bulletin board in the hallway for ACT1's "New Kid on the Block" performance. Look for signup sheet soon for the Cumming Playhouse on April 29. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, March 14 at noon in Room 206/207. Many thanks to Chef Doug and Chuck Watson for all they do in preparing our luncheon each month! Kathleen Wien |
Information Booth
As we enter our building, we all know how to get to the sanctuary. Passing the restrooms along the way, we also know which hallway leads to the nursery, and even the roundabout route to the theater and classrooms. However, these familiar places are not obvious to visitors. Our convoluted structure is intimidating for them. Throughout our building, the Communications Committee aims to keep the spirit of hospitality going. On Sunday mornings, it staffs two locations, an actual booth in the narthex and the desk in the upstairs lobby where gracious volunteers provide answers to basic questions about worship, our church life and logistics. They even walk visitors to their destinations. APC relies on these new faces to grow and enhance our church. We must make every effort to welcome them. If you encounter a visitor and cannot offer guidance, please direct him or her to an information station. During January, our elders have attended the information stations. The committee thanks them for their time. The Diaconate will help in February, and the Worship Committee has volunteered for March. The committee hopes each APC ministry will adopt a month going forward. Although hospitality appears effortless, it takes deliberate scheduling. Please contact Mike Marcin, marcinmikeapc@gmail.com or Amy Rogers, amyrrogers@bellsouth.net. if you wish to help. Thanks. |

ACT1 Play
The New Kid on the Block by Pat Cook
Produced by special arrangement with Eldridge Publishing Co. March 2 - 25
Carl, Lloyd and Parker, three older gentlemen who share a large home, need to rent out their fourth bedroom to help with bills. Their problem seems answered when Will shows up...except Will turns out to be a lady... and brings a whole host of hysterically funny new problems. Why do Carl and Will fight like brother and sister? Who's planting rumors that they are sweethearts? Why is Lloyd in fatigues and running night maneuvers through suburbia? Why is Parker sneaking around the neighborhood with his walkie-talkie? Who is the mysterious Woman in Black? This comedy has more turns than your uncle's map to grandma's house. And you'll finally find out just who really is The New Kid on the Block.

Career Transition
APC Career Transition Program - Recently the unemployment rate in Metro Atlanta dropped from 10.2% to 9.9 %. When individuals are no longer job hunting, as well as those who seek full-time jobs are counted, the real rate of unemployment is a conservative figure of 15%. Since 2007, Georgia has lost 360,000 positions, so the state now has approximately the same number of jobs that existed in 1999. Elder Bill Harris leads efforts at APC to address the employment concerns and needs your help. We are trying to get a handle on how many of our members are unemployed and underemployed and whether or not they participate in the Career Transition Group at APC. If you would like employment assistance, please email Bill at w.m.harris@att.net. If you work for or lead an organization, we would appreciate any information on positions that might represent opportunities that become available or contact names that would ensure a more effective outreach. We need our employed professionals and executives to reach out and make information available that will give a competitive edge to members of our congregation who are endeavoring to gain a sense of the real jobs and hidden market versus Internet postings. In the Lobby, the Career Transition Bulletin Board is now up and running. Please email Bill with any assistance you can offer as we renew our commitment to serve our members, veterans and the community in this challenging and prolonged Recession. |
