A Note from Kelly

In looking over the youth ministry during the last several months, all I can think of is the statement which a friend and fellow youth worker made about our spiritual journey and that is "What a ride".  These several months at APC have been just that a "wonderful ride", quite like a roller coaster, with its many ups, downs, curves and loops.  Much like our spiritual journey, where nothing is guaranteed but one thing and that is Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead for us and we live by His grace.

Now that I have created this picture of our youth program being one big roller coaster, let me explain that our ministry is not about the games but about our students loving one another, loving Jesus and learning how to apply their faith to their lives.

The goal of our youth ministry is to expose teenagers to God's love, to equip them, to glorify God, to enjoy other believers and to experience the works of ministry. It is about developing long lasting relationships and developing disciples for Jesus Christ.

We celebrate with our students this Sunday as they show their gratitude to God by preparing the worship services.  Come and experience the Risen Lord!

We have recently welcomed 18 eighth graders into the church rolls, having completed their faith statements during their year-long confirmation class.  We will accept our rising 6th graders into the middle and high school youth ministry program at the same time as we send our graduates into the world to be Christ's servants while away from APC. The commissioning of our Youth and advisors for three mission trips at home and abroad during June and July will give further witness to the remarkable youth growing at APC

In closing I would like to share that this group of students at APC is the most dynamic, diverse, energetic, loving, compassionate group of students. They are passionate about the church and about Jesus Christ. I believe that they are not the future of the church but the now. It is truly an honor and privilege to serve these students and their families.

Peace,

Kelly Edwards

Mother's Day Offering

Presbyterian Homes Mother's Day Offering May 8

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.  ~Isaiah 66:13

Each year on Mother's Day, members at APC join hundreds of other Georgia Presbyterian congregations in the Mother's Day offering.  This special offering benefits the Caring Hands Fund for Presbyterian Homes of Georgia.  Presbyterian Homes of Georgia provides long term and nursing care to the elderly through a network of nursing care facilities across the state.  Oftentimes, these residents are faced with dwindling resources.  Sometimes their medical needs are so great that their financial assets are drained, other times residents simply outlive their savings.

The Caring Hands Fund makes sure that those residents who become indigent are not asked to move out.  Each year, the Caring Hands Fund provides more than $2.75 million in charitable care. We ask that you donate generously to this offering so that the compassion and caring offered at Presbyterian Homes can be continued for these individuals.  Please look for the special offering envelopes in the pews during Sunday services on Mother's Day.

Eldercare Support

Directives, Powers of Attorney, Wills, Estates, Trusts?  How does anyone know quite where to turn?  Join us Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 PM, in Fellowship Hall when APC Eldercare welcomes Heather Durham, Esq. (an attorney referred by Presbyterian Homes) who will speak to us and explain the answers to these many legal and financial questions.  We hope to see you then. For questions or other information, please contact Ellen Adolph at 678-637-2928 or hbunnies@gmail.com.

STARS News
The STARS will hold their May potluck luncheon and meeting on Wednesday, May 11 at noon in Room 206/207. Please bring a dish to share. All seniors are welcome!

Disaster Assistance

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has set up a direct response account to help all areas affected by the tornados and storms in the Southeast. PDA is a member of ACT Alliance, an international coalition of churches working for humanitarian aid and development. Individuals can donate by making their check payable to APC and marking PDA (SE Tornados) on the memo line. All donations will be forwarded directly to PDA.

Photography Exhibit

Liturgical Art invites everyone to submit a photograph for our second photography exhibit.  The theme this year is Snapshots of Grace, and the show will run concurrently with the summer sermon series, Grace upon Grace, through the month of July.  Your photograph can be color or black & white, film or digital.  We ask that it measures 8" X 10" and be your own original work. Entry forms may be picked up at the photography table in the lobby beginning May 1.  Questions?  Contact Molly Elkind mpelkind@comcast.net or Sheryl Wentworth sherylwentworth@comcast.net

Career Transition
APC Career Transition Program - With Metro Atlanta's unemployment rate still hovering around 10%, many members and friends of APC find themselves unemployed or underemployed. When those who have given up are no longer job hunting, as well as those who want full-time jobs, but still work part-time, the real total unemployment rate leaps to 16.7%.

If your organization is seeking candidates to recruit, please contact Elder Bill Harris at w.m.harris@att.net. It's possible that some of our own members could be a good fit for your opportunity. Thank you for keeping our Career Transitions Ministry and the lives it touches in your prayers. For more information, or how to be involved with this ministry, please contact Bill Harris.
