It's sounds formulaic but when we do the best we can, we get the best WE can do.

When we being to function in the power and authority given to us by Jesus - living and operating in HIS Name - then we will see miracles!

building remodeling
saturday, november 14 @ 9am

This Saturday, November 14 at 9am, we are having a work day to get our new office/meeting/band space ready.

The offices are at: 141 Riverfront Plaza (on the riverfront near the gazebo downtown).

Work that needs to be done includes: painting, cleaning, plumbing, maybe some carpentry and mudding.

Bring paint brushes, ladders, and other tools if you've got 'em!

Lunch will be provided.

Even if you can't/don't want to work, stop by and see the new digs!

P.S.
I don't want to discourage anyone from coming who might want to be there but, knowing you all like I do, I'm afraid we're going to have a ton of people show up (see the next story) and then end up standing around because there isn't enough for everyone to do.

So, I'm just asking if you come and end up doing more socializing than working, don't be upset just enjoy the time and the good food!

(Also, you know I love the kids, but this is probably a good time to get a sitter.)

great starting point class!
Starting Point Nov 2009
(this is why we have sign up sheets people! ;-) )

Hey, we had a great time at our Starting Point class this past Sunday!  We had around 10 people sign up for the class...and then about 27 people actually show up and pack into our living room!

As usual, it was a blast and everyone handled the cramped conditions with good humor and lots of grace!

Thanks to everyone who came, signed up or not, (you know I love ya!) and to those who brought food to feed the masses!

There is no program, just hanging out, laughing, playing board games or cards...being goofy...all the things you're good at!

Everyone is welcome, bring your friends!  See you then!

5th sunday
november 29 @ 9am
groceries2

Our last 5th Sunday of 2009 will be at 9am on Sunday,  November 29.

For this 5th Sunday we are asking folks to bring non-perishable - yet tasty - food to the Bridge Building (141 Riverfront Plaza), or you can give money toward groceries beforehand and we'll do the shopping for you!

Then on the 29th, we'll all gather at the Bridge Building and divide the food up in boxes and deliver them to folks in town who could use some help.

Afterward, I'd love for us to have a pot luck lunch at the B2 (Bridge Building).

As is our tradition, we will meet in the high school parking lot at 9am and caravan over to the building.

FYI - on Sunday, November 29, there will
NO worship service at Allegan High School at 10:30am.

bridge christmas party
december 19 @ 6pm (probably)
Christmas

On December 19 will be the 2nd annual Bridge Christmas Party at the DeKryger's house!

Last year's Christmas party was a great time and it was the beginning of many great relationships at the Bridge - it was the first time many of us had a chance to just hang out and get to know each other and this year's party promises to be another great time!

We'll do it pot luck-style (we'll have more details as we get closer), but put it on your calendars and we'll see you there!

serve opportunity -
advent lunches

november 30-december 19
soup and bread

Some of the churches in town would like to do Advent Lunches for the community leading up to Christmas.

Lunches will consist of soup and bread and I'm wondering if we have any interest in taking a day of the week (about 4 days total) to provide food for the lunches.

Advent begins the week of November 30 and the lunches will continue until the week before Christmas.

If you have any interest in making soup and/or bread for the Advent Lunches please contact me and let me know what you can provide and if you have a preference of the day of the week we do it on.

Email me at roger@thebridgeinallegan.com or call me at 269-509-6458.

carols by candlelight
practices wednesdays at 7pm
carolers

First Presbyterian Church of Allegan is putting together a Christmas choir service called "Carols by Candlelight" that is open to anyone who is interested.

Practices are at 7pm every Wednesday and meets upstairs in the sanctuary of First Pres. The Carols by Candlelight service will be 7pm, December 6 at the Methodist Church in Allegan.

If you're interested, just show up on Wednesday at 7pm.

Since we don't have a choir of our own this is a great opportunity to connect to other folks in Allegan and sing some Christmas songs!

If you can't make the Wednesday rehearsal time, contact Nora Kelly at First Presbyterian Church: 269-673-4631.

AC
advent conspiracy
this christmas
The Christmas season is fast approaching.  Along with the onset of this season comes the inevitable complaining about the materialism, how much everything costs, and where is the true meaning of Christmas.

Well, you know what?  I think it's time we stopped complaining about it and started doing something about it, and I think Advent Conspiracy is a good place to begin.

Here is some information about AC from their web site:

_____________________
NOBODY WANTS A CHRISTMAS WORTH FORGETTING

The story of Christ's birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.
So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists.

And when it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas?

What if Christmas became a world-changing event again?

The concept behind Advent Conspiracy is simple:

  • Worship Fully
  • Spend Less
  • Give More
  • Love All

Welcome to Advent Conspiracy.

God's Power - Do we really want it?
~by Lisa DeKryger

As Roger preached about being empowered by the Holy Spirit a couple Sundays, I found myself just kind of half-engaged in the idea that the power of God through his Holy Spirit could be manifested in me and the Bridge in more powerful ways than I've experienced up to this point in my life.  I have yet to experience the sound of a violent wind from heaven filling the room, tongues of fire dancing above my head, and everyone speaking out in different languages.

3,000 people were added to their number that day!!!  3,000!!!!  That's power!  It seems unreal.  But it happened and we continue to worship a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  So, why couldn't something similar happen in Allegan in 2009?

Could 3,000 people come to know Jesus here?  Do we really want that to happen?  Do we look for it?  Do we ask for it?  Do we have a heart for our city?  Do we have a passion for the lost?  Do we ourselves want to be empowered in new and different ways by the Holy Spirit?

If your answer is yes to the last question, then I have two questions for you:
  1. How do you want the Holy Spirit to empower you? (fruits of the Spirit, share God's word, evangelism, courage, discipleship, preaching, prayer, healing, faith, pastor, leader, wisdom, insight, discernment, reach out to the hurting, love the unlovable, to forgive those who have wronged you. . .)
  2. How do you want the Holy Spirit to empower the body of Christ? (1000's of new believers added to our number, multiplying churches and leaders, healing the sick, explosion of disciples, rise in ethics, unity in a small town, breaking down strongholds of joblessness, addictions, abuse, satanic worship, witchcraft. . .)
ASK FOR IT!! - PRAY that God would empower you and the Bridge in these ways, and beyond, as He carries out His mission for Allegan and the surrounding communities.  His power is available to us!  It's time to fully engage!!
