JOHN 4v.34-38

34 Then Jesus explained: "My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.35 You know the saying, 'Four months between planting and harvest.' But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe* for harvest.36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike!37 You know the saying, 'One plants and another harvests.' And it's true.38 I sent you to harvest where you didn't plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest."

Jesus tells us in John 4 to wake up and go bring the harvest of people who are ripe and ready to be reconciled to God!

But the question that plagues all of us is:

 "I want to, but how?"

This week we will talk about a simple, practical way to share the Good News of Jesus with people who are eager to know more about Him.

The Bridge has added a new web address - www.thebridgeinallegan.com

The new web address still takes you to the Bridge web site and our old web address - www.crossingtogether.com
still works just fine...and will continue to do so.  The only thing that has changed is that people have a new way to get to our web site.

The reason for the addition of the new address is that we felt like thebridgeinallegan.com was a clearer and more intuitive name for the Bridge's web site and that it might be easier for visitors to find.

So, enjoy!  Tell your friends!

starting point class - take 2
sign up

Our first "Starting Point" class last Sunday was a great success!  But I have had several people tell me that, though they had other commitments last Sunday, they'd still like to take the Starting Point class this fall.

So, I will have a sign up sheet at church for the next few Sundays.  If we get enough folks who would like the class then we will do another one in October.

ROAD BLOCKS!!!!
~ by Lisa DeKryger

"Do you want to be healed?" Jesus asks.

Why is it so hard for us to just say a simple, "YES!" What are the roadblocks that hold us back from responding to Jesus? We live so inhibited! You'd think the one place we could respond to Him without feeling inhibited would be at a worship service, but I'm guessing some were on the edge of their seats wanting to come forward and be prayed for but never did.

So let's look at some of the road blocks:

Control - I want to guide my own life, to let go seems out of control.
Embarrassment - I don't want to look like I've failed or am weak.
Comparison - Someone else has a bigger need than mine.
Shyness - I don't want to draw attention to myself.
Weirded out - the whole "laying on of hands" thing makes me feel uncomfortable.
Rejection - If I reveal what's going on in my life, people will reject and judge me.
Undeserving - Why would God heal me? I've messed up.
Change - God might ask me to change my ways.
Repetition - I don't want to keep asking for prayer for the same thing.

I was talking to a woman this week about this very topic. She said that her main road block was control. She wanted to manage her own destiny. Her marriage was in the dumps and on the brink of destruction and she tried to make it better in her own power, but to no avail. Things kept getting worse. When she finally let go, fell on her knees, humbled herself and asked God to take over, she felt instantly liberated and since then incredible healing has come to her marriage!

We need to become a little more like the Dukes of Hazzard and bust through those road blocks!!!!! Yeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaa!!!!! (Can you see the General Lee flying through the air with the horn sounding?) Let's break through to some FREEDOM!

Prayer Focus:

Take some time to identify road blocks in your life and confess them to God. Ask God to remove them.
If you are in an LTG, take some time to confess your inhibitions or road blocks to each other and pray for each other to break through them. If there are healing needs, that didn't get addressed on Sunday, pray for them.
Pray that God would give you the strength to be vulnerable and "walk in the light as He is in the light".

"Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." James 5: 13-16
