ELCA Youth Leader Training series Workshop and webinar series continues this fall
The ELCA has rolled out a whole new Adult Youth Leader training program! This program comes in three seminars, and a series of online webinars geared towards equipping adult youth leaders for ministering with youth in today's society. It's also great preparation for the ELCA 2012 Youth Gathering, as that event is built on this training program. Each seminar will have the latest news on the Gathering!
The Spring 2011 installment is complete. The next round gets going this fall with the Fall Youth Leader Training Event and Retreat at LCLC on October 28-29 (details coming soon). Aside from this retreat (there is a nominal cost but well worth it!), the entire training and webinar series is free! See the Gathering Timeline or the NFC Youth Ministry Network page for when each piece of this program is happening. |

NFCLYO 40th Anniversary Happenings
Celebration Coffeehouse September 23
All youth and all who have been blessed by the NFCLYO's ministry since 1971 are invited to celebrate 40 years of the NFCLYO on Friday, September 23 at the Anniversary Celebration Coffeehouse!!! It's from 7-10 pm at St. John Lutheran Church, 6540 Main St., Williamsville. Live music, reunions, memorabilia, past directors, devotions, food and drink and more! A freewill offering is being collected to give back to the St. John's Lutheran Home for Children Board, our primary supporter since the NFCLYO was created! See you there!
Congrats Pastor Charlie Greene
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of Ordination of Pastor Charlie Greene, the original director of what would be the NFCLYO from 1971-1989, and still is an advocate for youth ministry here in WNY. Along with our other NFCLYO past directors, Pastor Charlie has written a reflection on his time as director. Check it (along with others) out at our 40th Anniversary page at www.nfclyo.org/40.html. |

NFCLYO Road Crew Adult volunteers wanted!
The NFCLYO is creating the ROAD CREW, a volunteer opportunity for authentic, available, and affirming* adults that LOVE youth, believe they are an important part of the church, and feel a desire to make a positive impact through behind-the-scenes service-even at odd hours!
If you fit this bill, then we invite you to commit to the Road Crew! We are seeking volunteers for our Event Ministries, Back Office tasks, and other areas as needed. The commitment involves an annual orientation, pre-event meeting and serving in your area during the event (4-6 times a year). Back office tasks meet 4 times a year.
If you can help ensure the success of NFCLYO youth ministry, you can apply now using our new online application form! If you can't, but know someone who could, contact Rick MG at (716) 465-1321 or rick@nfclyo.org. Adult volunteers are subject to reference and background checks.
*"authentic, available and affirming" Christians comes from Vibrant Faith Ministries at www.vibrantfaith.org |
Fall 2011 Preview
The 2011-12 NFCLYO year is looking to be another amazing year! Fall event dates are set...mark your calendars and check back at www.nfclyo.org for more info coming soon:
NFCLYO 2011-12 Kick-off at Lasertron: Saturday morning, October 8 12:30-7:30 am
The popular overnight of Lasertron and other assorted games and fun returns at the same cost since 2009! Fun with friends old and new, mixers, devotions, did we say fun?!, and a can food drive as well.
NFCLYO 2010 Harvest Bash at Harvest House: November 18-19
Captive Free returns to lead a concert and worship! Great games, activities, food and more as well as we support Harvest House.
As you come to NFCLYO events in 2011-12, keep in mind these points:
Event registration moves online!!!
All persons attending NFCLYO events (youth and adult) must complete a registration form. Once complete, it lasts for the entire school year. 2010-11 forms are good through August 31, after which we start with the new program year in September. Payment for admission to NFCLYO events is through a group reservation form that your church youth leader takes care of collecting and sending in money for. Starting this year, event registration and group reservation forms will now available as online forms you can complete and submit!
Sibling Discounts!
Save with sibling discounts to our NFCLYO events! If you and your brother/sister both come to an event, one of you will get a 10% discount on that event, and each sibling beyond that gets 25% off each! An example using Lasertron: a sibling group of 3 would pay $40, $36 and $30...saving $14! Discount will be for brothers and sisters only that live in the same household. Of course, adult chaperones will be free where we can control that (exceptions are Lasertron players and Winter Day Out participants...sibling discount applies to youth only).
Continual Food Drive for Resurrection Food Pantry
The CORE Team, the NFCLYO's senior-high leadership team, has teamed with the food pantry at Resurrection Lutheran Church on Buffalo's east side! They are working at the food pantry once a month, enabling the pantry to be open on the third Saturday each month, helping working families access services at the pantry. You can help by bringing non-perishable food items to each NFCLYO event for our continual food drive! We'll bring donations straight to the pantry to get on the shelves and out to people right away! We also welcome youth groups to serve at the pantry as well! Contact Rick MG at rick@nfclyo.org for details. |
