"Be of good courage and God will strengthen your heart."

  

And so began Bishop Palmer's first day on the job, calling all the District Superintendent's personally and as he said, "reporting in, first day on post."  While his installation service isn't slated until later this month, he is already on watch, and officially began as West Ohio's bishop on September 1.  The Bishop will be visiting each district over the coming weeks - watch for news from your district office for the details of his visit to your district. 
Congregation and Community Developer nominated to lead UM Mission and Evangelism efforts

A church leader from the West Ohio Annual Conference is the nominee to lead the core program unit of The United Methodist Church's worldwide mission agency. George G. Howard was nominated by the personnel committee of the General Board of Global Ministries to serve as deputy general secretary of the agency's Mission and Evangelism unit. The action is subject to the affirmative vote of the full board of directors at the end of October. In the meantime, Howard has been appointed by Thomas Kemper, the general secretary (chief executive) of Global Ministries to head up the unit on an interim basis, effective October 1.

 

"I am excited for George to join our leadership team at Global Ministries," said Kemper. "His personal and professional experience brings the local and global together in a wonderful way." [more]

Communications key to future, Africans told
UM communicators attending the African Communicators Workshop

Fanuel Tagwira, the vice chancellor of Africa University, has challenged African United Methodists to use multiple channels of communications to reach various audiences. Tagwira issued the challenge Monday, August 27, in his keynote address to the African Communicators Workshop in Harare, Zimbabwe. "Communication is at the center of what every organization/institution does, including the church," said Tagwira, who heads the United Methodist-related institution of higher learning.  [more]

Loan break for United Methodist students

The United Methodist loan program is offering a new option with lower interest and earlier repayment to help United Methodist college students struggling with increasing debt. BorrowSmart allows college students who are members of United Methodist churches to borrow $5,000 at 3.75 percent interest and begin repaying the loan in 90 days at $50 a month instead of deferring repayment.  [more]

Don't tether any of the animals to the stable backdrop - they may pull it down. Keep an eye on the donkeys - they tend to wander. Have a shovel nearby.That was some of the advice offered in an Internet survey Interpreter conducted to assist churches considering having a live Nativity scene during Advent.
