2012-2013 Scholarship Recipients |
The West Ohio Conference is pleased to announce the 27 West Ohio students who will receive Next Generations Leadership scholarships for the 2012-13 academic year. Through the generous donations received during The United Methodist Student Day Offering as well as funding through the conference's Connectional Ministries area, the West Ohio Conference provides scholarships to qualified West Ohio undergrad students who are attending accredited institutions of higher education. Installation Service for Bishop Palmer streamed live |
The Installation Service for West Ohio's new Bishop, Gregory V. Palmer, is Sunday, September 16, at 4pm, at Church of the Messiah United Methodist Church in Westerville, and is open to the public. A reception in the church's fellowship hall will follow the service. The service will be live streamed from the West Ohio homepage for those unable to attend but wishing to witness the service. The church's children's choir (so popular at the 2012 Annual Conference) will be performing and Bishop Palmer will be preaching.

West Ohio United Methodist Women 39th Annual Celebration | "Walk with Wholeness" is the theme for this year's annual celebration for West Ohio United Methodist women. Join your sisters in Christ at Grove City United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 10 for a day of celebration honoring the many ministries of United Methodist Women. Guest speaker Jeanette Kraus is a Women's Division Director from Delaware who is an advocate for the homeless and teacher of Native American studies at many Schools of Christian Mission. 16th Annual Legal Forum - Managing local church risk |
Ohio Northern University will be the location of this year's Annual Legal Forum on Friday, October 26 from 8:30-4 p.m. Topics include dealing with local church disasters (legal and practical issues); estate and gift planning for local churches; and how to deal with lawyers on their side and ours. Hospital residency helps minister, too | The Rev. Michelle Baker, an ordained deacon in the West Ohio Annual (regional) Conference, is finishing up her residency this summer at Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. Just as U.S. physicians must complete hospital residencies, so too must many hospital chaplains like Baker. Spark12 considers finalists for social justice startups | Twelve projects are being considered for funding from Spark12, a pilot incubator for social justice ministry startups developed and implemented by teams of young adults. West Ohio's Julia Nielsen and April Blaine are finalists with a mentorship model for existing ministries that fosters the cultivation of current and future community leaders through connections with community partners, social justice advocates and sustainable funding sources. Charitable Pharmacy just keeps growing | Since opening on February 26, 2010, the Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio - a ministry of the West Ohio Conference - has served over 2,275 patients and dispensed more than 75,000 prescriptions, valued at over $6 million. Recently, the pharmacy gained a new Resident Pharmacist from Ohio State, was honored for providing 'Excellence in Experiential Education,' and started a bulk replenishment program through the drug manufacturing company, Pfizer.
