Mission Intern Commissioning

West Ohio mission intern Brittany Browne receives communion during the Young Adults in Mission Conference.

On Friday, August 3, Global Ministries commissioned its 61st class of US-2s and its 35th class of Mission Interns at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Arlington, Virginia. Bishop Minerva Carcaņo officiated as 34 Young Adults in Mission-the largest group in several years-were sent forth into the world. This year's Young Adults in Mission, aged 20-30, are a more diverse group than ever. Missionaries hailed from all over the United States, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Philippines, South Korea, Peru, Ukraine, and Liberia.  

 

Two interns from West Ohio were commissioned and one US-2 will work in West Ohio.

Labor in the Pulpit
Over the past few years, workers in the US have been battered with unemployment, underemployment, wage theft and on-the-job injuries. At the same time, people from all walks of life are coming together and rallying behind worker issues like never before, according to Interfaith Worker Justice. This Labor Day, join hundreds of congregations and community groups in honoring workers and lifting up the struggle for worker and economic justice.  [Resources]
On My Shoulders - United Methodist Men Fall Gathering
The UMM of the West Ohio Conference present "On My Shoulders" featuring Rev. Rex Robinson, a gifted speaker from the Marriage Resource  Center of the Miami Valley, on October 13 at North Broadway United Methodist Church in Columbus. The program is biblically-principled, strength-based,  and experiential designed to give men from a variety of backgrounds effective tools for being strong, effective men and fathers. It emphasizes relationship skills, builds self awareness, addresses emotions, promotes mindful choices, and encourages men to value themselves as men. [Registration]
MTSO hosts Next Generations interns 
A trio of promising United Methodist ministry interns visited Methodist Theological School in Ohio July 22-24. The three are serving in the Next Generations Leadership Ministry Interns program sponsored by the West Ohio Conference. Andy Burns, Rocky Riddle and Alex Wiles were chosen for 12-week paid summer internships, through which each serves under a mentor in a host church while exploring a call to ordained ministry.  [more] 
Ministering to wounds of Sand Creek
The scars of the Sand Creek Massacre are not healed. The brutal nighttime attack in 1864, which took the lives of 200 men, women and children of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes, was led by a Methodist pastor and cavalry officer.

Now, a United Methodist is leading a ministry of listening and building relationships.  [more]
United Methodist schools score well
Over 1,400 United Methodist pastors who completed an online survey in June asking them to compare United Methodist-related colleges and universities to other colleges and universities rated the church-related institutions high on personalized learning, integrating values into the college experience, faith formation, and encouraging community service.  [more]
Love Packages Mission

The newest West Ohio Conference United Methodist Men mission project is named "Love Packages". If you have used Christian materials lying around and have no plans for their use consider them for use by Christians overseas through Love Packages. To help develop the collection logistics in your district, Leo Scholl, lschol@sbcglobal.net is willing to help you, as the WOCUMM Project Coordinator.  [more]
