The Miracle at Lakeside |
God's miracles were abundant at the 43rd Session of the West Ohio Annual Conference, evidenced through the breakthrough spirit, unity and faithfulness of its members. The focus was global health: eliminating the diseases of poverty. In attendance were 2,142 lay and clergy members and 485 guests who found many ways of demonstrating this year's theme, "Unleashed! Proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere." A highlight of the week was the miraculous giving by the people of West Ohio of more than $1M for the purchase of a new plane for Wings of the Morning. Read more about our miraculous week

Celebration of Life and Ministry Service |
The Celebration of Life and Ministry began as the Bishop, Cabinet, clergy, and two Deacon, nine Provisional Elder, and thirteen Elder candidates formed a processional joined by candidates' families behind vivid, brilliant banners. Bishop Ough laid hands on each candidate, offering a blessing to their lives and ministries. Memorial candles were lit while a solemn bell rang in honor of each of 32 clergy members from the conference who passed away within the last year. Forty-four retirees were also honored and, as Bishop Ough stated, "their witness and work, sacrifice and service, have set a standard for all." Read more and view photos |

Pastor rides "North to Alaska" for Vietnam Clergy |
Friends, clergy and family gathered for the "North to Alaska Send Off" Sunday, June 24. Grove City United Methodist Church pastor, Dr. Dennis Miller, and friend Bill Bartram left following the Bishop's blessing on a 15 day, 6,200 mile (10,000 kilometer) motorcycle trip to Hyder, Alaska to raise money for the purchase of motorbikes for United Methodist pastors in Vietnam. Prior to their departure, Miller presented Bishop Ough with a check for $16,000 he had raised for the purchase of the motorbikes. Monitoring Report for 2012 Annual Conference |
The Inclusive Body of Christ Lead Team has been working on developing a fuller understanding of increasing diversity and what monitoring would need to look like to assist us in reaching out to our diverse neighbors. For the past 3 years, we have diligently monitored our annual conference sessions providing a statistical report with observations and questions. We have also found this to be a frustrating experience, because in general, the diversity appearing on the stage exceeds the diversity represented in Hoover and our congregations. This, however, is not acceptable when we also look at Census data as it regards ethnic and age diversity within our communities. Because the West Ohio Inclusive Body of Christ lead team is committed to increasing the diversity throughout our church, we have made several commitments as we move into the next 4 years. Read more |
