Fighting hunger, one cucumber at a time
Delegates and visitors to General Conference 2012 teamed up to help bag more than 40,000 pounds of cucumbers that were then distributed to homeless shelters and feeding programs around central Florida. The cucumber bagging was sponsored by Society of St. Andrew, a nonprofit hunger relief ministry started by three United Methodist pastors. [video]
Welcome to the 21st century
"The 20th century United Methodist Church ran headlong into the 21st century United Methodist Church at General Conference 2012 in Tampa last week," writes Larry Hollon, in his "Faith, Media and Culture" blog. The church was willing to open its proceedings to the world through digital media, but there were bumps along the way.  [more]

"Impenetrable horror"
The 2012 United Methodist General Conference paused on the afternoon of May 1 to remember those killed in a wave of late April violence in Nigeria and to pray for peace in that country. The uncle of a Nigerian seminary student present in Tampa was killed in a bomb blast  in the city of Jalingo. The student, enrolled in a seminary on the U.S. East Coast, was here with a contingent observing the General Conference.  [more]
The Carpenter's Ministry - Buzz & Ellen Ditto
February 4, 2008, God spoke to Buzz & Ellen Ditto from Delphos, OH, and said "Sell what you have, leave what you know. Come, I have work for you." And so their missionary journeys began as full-time volunteers at the Henderson Settlement. Their ministry is known as THE Carpenter's Ministry. Buzz builds with wood as Christ did as a carpenter. Ellen builds with word teaching & listening as Christ did when He walked the earth. Together they follow THE Carpenter & serve His Ministry.  [more]
Greetings from Cambodia!
Romeo del Rosario, missionary to Cambodia, writes..."We are still within the season of Easter. So, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, let me wish each of you a life-changing, life-affirming, fear-defying, hope-creating and death-overcoming Easter season. In the words of Acts 3:4-10, may you find reasons to look up as though for the first time ever. May you find your 'ankles and feet made strong.' May you experience the exhilaration of 'walking and leaping for joy' before God our Healer and Maker."  [more]
