Blessed by Serving: Disaster Relief in West Ohio
"It almost restores your faith in people," remarks Gordon Ginn, pastor at Grant Memorial UMC in Moscow, OH, where recent tornadoes severely damaged much of the town. In the hospital when the tornadoes hit, Pastor Ginn returned home the next day to find his church already serving meals to people affected by the tornadoes. Partnering to help churches with copyright compliance

Local churches are not covered under any music or video licensing currently held by the West Ohio Conference, unless the event is sponsored by the West Ohio Conference, one of its Camping & Retreat Centers or its district offices. Visit www.westohioumc.org/copyright to see what licenses the West Ohio Conference holds to manage its use of music and video legally, and links to copyright information for local churches.

Copyright compliance can be overwhelming for most church leaders. Obtaining proper licenses for compliance is often a confusing, difficult and time-consuming process. With that in mind, the West Ohio Conference is partnering with CopyrightSolver by CCS to provide churches with some additional resources (along with a discount) they may need in situations in which music or video are used outside of the worship setting. [more]

UMW Approves Community Development for All People as National Mission Institution
The Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries (UMW), has approved West Ohio's Community Development For All People  (CD4AP) as a new National Mission Institution. CD4AP is one of only two institutions to be added to the network in many years, and like the United Methodist Women, serves the community with an emphasis on work with women, children and youth on the margins.  In addition, a CD4AP proposed housing initiative for forty new homes on Columbus' South Side has been named the number one housing priority by the mayor of the City of Columbus. Since 2006 CD4AP has renovated or built sixty homes, and has provided exterior repair assistance to another 36 existing home owners. Community partners have included United Way of Central Ohio, Nationwide Children's Hospital, the City of Columbus, The Affordable Housing Trust, Habitat for Humanity, and numerous individuals.
2012 Africa University Annual Report
In February 2012, Africa University launched a year-long celebration of its 20th Anniversary. It has quite a story to tell. "We serve a faithful God," says Dr. Fanuel Tagwira, vice chancellor. Recalling the challenges the University faced during Zimbabwe's economic crisis in 2008-2009, Tagwira noted that "God was on our side...other universities, primary and secondary schools, and hospitals closed, but Africa University students never lost a day of classes."  For this, Tagwira offered his thanks to The United Methodist Church for its responsiveness and unwavering support.  [more]
