West Ohio Pastors Lead Mission and Evangelism Institute 2012 |
Methodist Theological School in Ohio will host the Mission and Evangelism Institute March 19 and 20, with the theme "Missional Church in Many Contexts." The institute will offer pathways toward becoming a missional congregation in rural, suburban and urban settings. The event's three speakers are proven missional leaders who have had breakthroughs in transforming congregations from inward-oriented to mission-focused.

Rev. Dave Hood is the campus pastor at Fort McKinley Church, the urban branch of Ginghamsburg Church in Dayton.

Rev. Kevin Koske is the pastor of Church in the Mall in Heath, an outreach ministry of Centenary UMC in Granville.

Rev. Bill Lyle served as pastor of Greenville Evangelical UMC, a rural congregation, for 14 years and has recently become the senior pastor at Peace UMC in Pickerington.

West Ohio United Methodist Women Celebrate Mutuality in Mission | On November 12, 2011, over 350 people gathered at Worthington United Methodist Church for Mutuality in Mission, the 38th Annual Celebration of the West Ohio Conference United Methodist Women (UMW). Attending were United Methodist Women from West Ohio local congregations, UMW leaders from the conference and district, district superintendents, Bishop and Char Ough, as well as other conference staff.
Keynote Speaker for the celebration was Glory Dharmaraj from the Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries. Dr. Dharmaraj has authored many books, including Concepts of Mission, Mutuality in Mission, Christianity, Judaism and Islam: A Missiological Encounter. Also speaking was Katey Zeh, coordinator for Healthy Families, Healthy Planet from the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society. Ms. Zeh provided some startling information about the status of women and children around the world.

2012 undergraduate scholarships |
 The West Ohio Conference is offering three types of undergraduate scholarships for the 2012 - 2013 academic year. These scholarships are available thanks to a combination of apportionment giving and the United Methodist Student Day Offering. Applicants must be an active member of a West Ohio United Methodist congregation and plan to attend an accredited institution of higher education. For more information click here. McCurdy School celebrates centennial |
McCurdy School, a UM mission school in Espanola, NM, is celebrating its 100th anniversary by inviting Ohio United Methodists to join in an Ohio Celebration of the McCurdy School Centennial, from 11- 2 on Saturday, March 17 at Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church. The event will begin with a worship service celebrating McCurdy's history followed by a Northern New Mexico style lunch and fellowship time. [more] |
A Missional Church Training Day |
The Miami Valley District is sponsoring a Missional Church Training Day on Saturday, February 4 from 8:45-12:45 at Christ UMC, 3440 Shroyer Road, Kettering. This training day is recommended for clergy, paid church staff and unpaid leaders in churches of all sizes.
Presentations with follow-up discussions are:
- "Small Membership-Mighty in Mission" led by Don Woolley, former pastor of Pleasant Valley UMC and Jesus Tribe in Mobile, AL. Learn how you can create transformational ministry.
- "Unleashing the Missional Church: Six Practices to Turn Your Church Inside Out" led by Rev. Sue Nilson Kibbey, Director of Connectional and Missional Church Initiatives of the West Ohio Conference.
