RethinkPoverty
Bring a church group, your family or come yourself to central Ohio on Saturday, May 1, when United Methodists from all over Ohio will be "rethinking poverty" with central Ohio urban communities.  Join us!
  1. Learn & Serve Workshops will offer the opportunity to learn more about the realities of poverty and serve with United Methodist Bishops from across the globe at four urban locations in Columbus.
  2. A public witness walk in downtown Columbus to the Ohio Statehouse will provide visible evidence of our support for children, especially those in poverty.
  3. The Celebration Rally on the Statehouse lawn will have speakers, music, special guests, and games geared toward families and children.
  4. 100% of all donations go to The United Methodist Children's Home in Columbus and Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti.
  5. A special 4-part preaching series on poverty will be led by United Methodist Bishops throughout the weekend.

Writings at Camp Wesley
cabin writingsAt some point, it became the thing to do. Before there were social networking sites and email, apparently the most effective way to leave your legacy at Camp Wesley was to scribe your name on the rafters or ceiling of your cabin. While a Camp Wesley renovation project will add life and live-ability to these original structures, the new paint will cover up decades of camp history. [more]    List of Names      Photo Gallery

Mentoring/Networking opportunity for young pastors
mentoringOn Tuesday, May 18 at 10 a.m., West Ohio Conference "under 35" pastors are invited to be part of a mentoring/networking session all about preaching on Ginghamsburg's campus. Seasoned veterans, David Bridgman, Jeff Greenway, Mark Rowlard and Mike Slaughterwill serve as your hosts and mentors and will share about sermon preparation; teaming with others on the message; message delivery; and any other hints, tips and recommendations of what to do, and perhaps what not to do, from the platform if you want people to experience life and mission transformation. This 'free' event includes lunch but registration is required. Email Karen Smith.
41st Annual Conference Clergy Session - May 19, 2010

There is something different about Clergy Session this year. Along with the required business, a day of clergy soul-care is being planned. Imagine a day of worship where you don't have to prepare, organize, lead or preach! The day will be divided into two sections: the morning will focus on our call which God has rooted within us; the afternoon will focus on claiming the good gifts of God that sustain and empower us to fulfill that call. It will be a time just for us to affirm our common mission and call, welcome new colleagues, celebrate with those who are retiring and remember those who have taken their place in that greater cloud of witnesses. Pastors reach out to miners' families
minersMore than a half-dozen United Methodist clergy are offering a ministry of presence to the families and loved ones of coal miners killed or missing following an April 5 explosion. West Virginia Bishop Ernest Lyght called for prayer for the miners and families. He asked God to "surround us with a sense of calm in the midst of our distress. We ask that your holy presence might bring comfort to all the families touched by this incident." [more]
Peace with Justice Sunday - May 30, 2010
pwjEstablished by the 1988 General Conference, Peace with Justice Sunday supports programs that advocate peace and justice at home and around the world. Since half of the offerings collected by your annual conference is retained to fund local peace with justice programs, you can see a difference made locally. In addition, half of the offering is remitted to the General Board of Church and Society to help fund U.S. and global work in social action, public-policy education and advocacy. Peace with Justice Sunday can be celebrated anytime throughout the year. To read additional stories of lives changed by Peace with Justice Sunday click here.
