Greetings! |

My wife and I took some date time when both of us had to be in Columbus recently. Got lunch, but then later in the afternoon, I thought we needed some dessert. So, what do you do? Type "cheesecake" in your GPS and you will find a "sure-as-shooting" good match. It turned out to be a pretty interesting experience. If it wasn't for the GPS we would have never found it! [more]

Black student leaders hopeful for Haiti's recovery |
If New Orleans can recover from Hurricane Katrina, there is hope the people of Haiti will find new life after the massive earthquake that struck January 12. "I feel hope for those people," said Charlie Coleman, a student leader at Dillard University in New Orleans. "I'm impressed with the response," said Courtneika Hudson, a senior at Paine College in Augusta, Ga. These young leaders were happy to see communities coming together to support the people of Haiti in their immediate recovery, especially seeing the success of social networking efforts reaching young audiences. Through the efforts of the West Ohio Disaster Response team, volunteer drivers have been secured to transport collected health kits from various central Ohio drop-off locations to Shawnee UMC in Lima.
When Roger Evans recently volunteered to be a driver to pick up health kits being assembled for the Haiti relief effort, little did he realize that his offer would be such a blessing from God. [more] |

Grace Hospital is home to children abandoned by quake |
The doctors and staff at Grace Children's Hospital are caring for 10 to 15 children since the January 12 earthquake. They are the "abandoned" ones - children who were in the hospital when the disaster struck, or lost ones found alone and brought there. Grace Hospital has a long history of caring for children and is supported by many West Ohio UM churches. It was built in 1967 by a United Methodist couple from the U.S. as a center for children with tuberculosis. [more] |

The 'theology' of 'Avatar' |
Cloning, military aggression, adoring worship among plot devices By the Dr. Rev. Jack Copas
James Cameron's space epic contains lessons for anyone claiming a Christian heritage. As Christians we are called to turn our swords into plowshares and study war no more. "Avatar" should prompt us to question how we live with ourselves when we are confronted with being the aggressors, fomenting war for scurrilous purposes. [more] |
