Continuing education event with Violet Fisher |
Retired United Methodist Bishop Violet Fisher will lead Otterbein Homes' first continuing education event for clergy and laity this October. Bishop Fisher will focus on "Growing in Ministry with Older Adults." and will lead a Bible study for older adults that will serve as a learning opportunity for attending clergy and laity who work with older adults. Other sessions will focus on spiritual formation and disciplines that will aid in helping older adults grow closer in their relationship with God and steps in creating an intentional older adults ministry. Early Response Training |
New Knoxville UMC will be sponsoring an UMCOR Early Response Team training class this October. Early Response Team (ERT) members respond to assist survivors of natural disasters and provide a caring Christian presence in the midst of chaos. The class is limited to the first 35 students. Future clergy choose United Methodist schools |
Nearly nine in 10 elders and deacons ordained in 2008 were trained at denominationally approved seminaries. Barely more than 5 percent of the 464 newly ordained elders and deacons went to a seminary unaffiliated with The United Methodist Church, according to a survey by the Board of Higher Education and Ministry. The study found that 57.3 percent of the new elders and deacons - 248 elders and 35 deacons - attended one of the 13 United Methodist seminaries.
