Greetings!
All human beings have been created in the image of God and are called to abundant life. As United Methodists, we embrace a faith and lifestyle marked by personal and social holiness. The Gospel that Jesus proclaimed and we confess is intended to bring good news to the poor. What could be better news than the end of poverty? Health care and healing are major subjects of faith. Bishop Ough speaks on Health Care Reform.
School of Congregational Development
SCDForming strong new congregations takes a "theology of being in mission" as much as a "theology of attraction," according to Bishop Ough, who holds a key position in our denomination's global structure.  The annual School of Congregational Development took place in Evanston, IL, and was attended by some 600 pastors, superintendents, bishops and conference lay leaders. Bishop Bruce Ough participated along with George Howard, Marcus Atha, Dennis Mohler and a number of pastors from West Ohio. A series of articles on the school is appearing on the Global Ministries website

What do a warship, animals, and Wednesday night have in common?  Rethink Church.

WARshipPastor Ron Dixon of Emmett Chapel UMC has a passion for youth and reaching out to people who have preconceived notions of what church is.  With a sound driven by guitars and drums, WARship band members have a passion for God and music. On Friday, August 14th, Emmett Chapel and WARship will merge their passions hoping to draw area youth to a new kind of "church" experience.  WARship will headline a concert in the Emmett Gym at Emmett Chapel UMC in Circleville. Not your typical rock band, the group offers very diverse covers & orginal music from rock to rap to rap core to praise and worship.  Also on the lineup is popular country artist Ashley Everts.  The concert is free, with food & refreshments - churches and other organizations are invited to bring youth groups. Visit Tedrow UMC in the village Tedrow on any given Wednesday evening and you are in for a treat. There you will find around 40 children and adults doing church -- worshipping, studying God's word, discovering their artistic gifts, building a community of faith. These children are the same in many ways: they attend the same school, they wait for the school bus at the stop, they play together in each others' backyards. They are different in other ways: many of them were born in another country, same of them only speak Spanish within their homes. They are all loved children of God embraced by the people of Tedrow UMC whose average attendance is around 30 each Sunday. As one member of the congregation told me, "We are small so we get to do everything together. We are blessed." And so they are!!    Marla Brown

Heifer CakeThe North Union County United Methodist Cooperative is a group of United Methodist congregations partnering in ministry. Each fall, these congregations join together at the North Union County Fairground for a Fall Festival supporting Heifer Project International. A fun afternoon of games, food, music, and fellowship is provided as everyone raises money to buy animals to share with those in need around the world. Cakes in the shape of the animals are auctioned off and children of all ages can spend time enjoying animals brought in from nearby farms. The afternoon event provides valuable animals for God's children in other parts of the world and a benefit for many years to come. It also provides a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to join together with other United Methodist friends in this part of the county. [more]  Cindy Garn

Share your church's ministry on the West Ohio Conference blog and it may appear in a future Rethink Church article in NewsNET.
