Lopez Family to be Home for the Holidays
House sponsor State Farm and media partner KVUE again join Austin Habitat to grant one family's holiday wish
AUSTIN, Texas (November 25, 2008) - Austin
Habitat for Humanity and State Farm Insurance Company will raise the walls on the 2008 Home for the Holidays located at 6102 Devonshire Cove on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at 8 a.m.
The wall raising marks the beginning of construction on the home, which will be completed in just three short weeks. Hundreds of employees from State Farm will work hand-in-hand with future Austin Habitat homeowner Estela Lopez to complete construction.
The house, which
is fully sponsored by State Farm, gives Lopez a
chance to finally have a home that is safe and large enough for her and her grandchildren.

The Lopez Family Estela
Lopez is raising her three grandchildren. Two are boys--ages 18 14and a girl, who is 17. The family lives in a two-bedroom
apartment that has mold problems and bug infestations. Lopez wants to
have a clean, permanent home where her grandchildren can have their own
rooms, and she won't have to worry about them getting sick from mold or a bug
infestation.
She also understands how important a good education is
for her grandchildren and has dreams of them going to college. Having
a stable home life is a critical part of achieving academic success.
Lopez is a supervisor for Ameritx Guard Services at the Texas
Department of Health.
She has completed all but four of her 24 home ownership education classes and at this date, has completed over half of her 400 sweat equity hours.
She dreams of having a home to take care of her grandchildren and have family gatherings, especially during the holidays
