University of Texas Habitat for Humanity Chapter Partners With LOWE's to Kick Off 2008-09 Volunteer Season

AUSTIN, Texas (September 19, 2008) - Join us Saturday, September 20, 2008, anytime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to celebrate the kickoff of the University of Texas Habitat for Humanity Chapter's 2008-09 volunteer season. UT Chapter students will be working with LOWE's, who has sponsored the house they will work on, for this special kickoff weekend.

Lowe's Logo As a longtime sponsor of Austin Habitat homes, LOWE's is proud to partner with the University of Texas students on this effort. The Lowe's sponsorship is part of a national grant program that the corporation initiated to build Habitat homes in 20 cities across the country this year.

Approximately 20 students will donate their Saturday to the effort to complete the LOWE's house. The UT Chapter, active since 1989, organizes a volunteer build day at least once monthly throughout the academic year. Says Michael Willard, executive director of Austin Habitat for Humanity:

"We are excited to begin another year of building with out University of Texas Campus Chapter volunteers. We give great thanks to Lowe's for sponsoring this home and for providing the opportunity for these committed UT students to come together and give back to the Austin community. We are very proud of this partnership."

LOWE's and the UT Chapter will be working on the future home of Tobbie Carter. Carter currently resides in an efficiency apartment and is thrilled to be close to her dream of home ownership. After completing 24 education courses with Austin Habitat, and 400 hours of "sweat equity," Carter looks forward to purchasing her home with the zero-percent mortgage offered through the Austin Habitat program.
